if run in a window, deck game mode sees a black screen. Go to desktop mode for initial setup to get it into borderless or fullscreen
Windowed mode makes the game show black screen in game mode. Use desktop mode to set up fullscreen or borderless
Desktop mode runs out of the box, gets at least 6 or so hours on deck after setting it to borderless so it runs on game mode
most reviews are for FFX and not X-2, X-2 seems to struggle to even get past boot with varying configs on GE and default
Attempted both GE and standard installs
FFX works fine, X-2 crashes frequently
used a mod to bring battles to 20 fps and set 40hz
Thanks to the steamdeck's display and the 20 fps battle mod, the game is finally in a way to properly play this like on the old DS. Frame timings are significantly better at 40hz and it "fits" the game a lot more smoothly than when it was running at 60hz. If you ever wanted to play the 3d remake, the steamdeck is the best way.
gamescope -f -W 2560 -H 1600 -r 165 --backend wayland -- %command%
Modified the DLL for direct storage
The game would start then minimize and fail to do anything else or show on the display without gamescope
Without the launch commands above and replacing the DLL like the other comments mentioned -together- this game would not boot. The only optional command in it for me was gamemode. Adjust the gamescope resolution to your machine of course but if your game minimizes or freezes or launches for 2 seconds and stops like mine did try the above
slight frame drops, lowered settings to work around, needs some tweaking to run properly. Right now at 60 resolution scale and low settings lets it run fairly well. Likely needs shader precache to fix initial stuttering since it runs smooth after the fact
ran well out of the box, did multiple matches
Set a lower resolution to use FSR to improve battery life
I lowered resolution so that FSR would be enabled, looks just about native
played through early story with a friend who also had a deck. We both connected fine and managed to play without any issue
No issues on default settings, any changes were simply for battery life
at one point audio disappeared, a restart solved it
Game lists 16:10 aspect ratio resolutions but they still revert to 16:9 leaving black bars
to save power and improve performance, I lowered shadow settings as volumetric lighting uses a lot of the gpu, after doing so even near beacons my framerate tends to hover around 60 fps
the game doesn't seem to support 16:10 aspect ratio but still "starts in it" leading to a few UI errors, easily fixed by changing the resolution to 720p manually
lowered the resolution, set to windowed, and enabled FSR. Ran at 40hz and 40 fps
No issues running on deck, honestly it's fairly impressive to have it look as good as it does on it
