Runs fine once you get past Origin. Enjoyable experience.
Online play felt slightly choppy. Still playable & enjoyable.
This took me a while to figure out: Origin won't work with the i3 desktop environment (bugs out when you try to sign in). After switching to lxde I had no issues.
Online play won't work due to EAC, but self hosting was fine
Received a 'failed to launch' error from EAC when starting the game. Got kicked after some time in online lobbies, but I was able to play on a friend's hosted server with 3 others with no issues.
Besides playing in windowed full screen, works perfect out of the box
Stability issues in full screen, but worked perfectly in windowed full screen
It launches and plays okay, but the FPS was unexpected low. Very choppy.
Low FPS
Froze up when exiting
Used Proton 5.13
Low FPS when panning camera, but doesn't interfere with gameplay
Choppy frame rates when panning the camera around
Runs well out of the box
Alt-tabbing out has weird behavior - need to do it multiple times to get back into the game, then the game will think you're holding down the Alt key. Pressing Alt again will solve it, so not a problem, just a bit strange.
The only issues I've encountered are not OS related. This works great with Proton.
Single player is shoddy, coop and multiplayer don't work at all.
It was 50/50 with single player - crashed frequently. I'm requesting a refund.
Runs without any issues. Some minor lag at points, but I'm pretty sure that's the game itself and nothing to do with Proton.
Had to revert back to 6.3-7 to get to launch at all. Running into stability issues - might try a different Proton version another time.
Frequently freezes up & disconnects from game
6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
-ignorepipelinecache launch option
Linux/Proton related:
Used Proton-6.21-GE-2
with -ignorepipelinecache
Steam launch option as suggested by others.
All platforms:
There's a recent bug where RDR2 won't launch due to the Rockstar launcher (affects Windows as well). Here's what I did to get around it:
- Open the Properties menu for RDR2 from the Steam Library window.
- (General) Uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" and "Use Desktop Game Theatre while SteamVR is active".
- (Controller) Disable Steam input.
I didn't pinpoint which step fixed this issue, but my guess is start with #3.
Runs perfectly out of the box
The only tweak I had to make was to use Proton 5.13-1, which can readily be set in steam through the Properties menu. Whatever the default version of Proton was set to had problems with the initial Xbox sign in, but after setting it to 5.13-1 I haven't had a single issue. Multiplayer runs great, I had a blast.
Followed this tutorial without any other adjustments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yo1Ls7AaWo
Switching to windowed fullscreen helps - it lets me Alt-Tab out and use my mouse, although keyboard input still did not work in other windows.
Crashed once due to something about the "GPU overheating". Struck me as a bug rather than any actual stress on my GPU. Other than that instance it's been a really stable experience.
I've tried the repo/script that's been mentioned here with no luck. This video has you manually step through what that's doing, and I think a few extra things, and is what got it to work for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yo1Ls7AaWo
Application load error (0x02)
Attempted multiple proton versions, uninstalling/reinstalling. Won't launch.
28 hours logged. Solid play experience.
Had to set graphics to lower than expected settings.
Runs well on medium graphics settings.
Lower than expected graphics settings.
