Locked 30 FPS
Some texts can be a small but nothing completely unreadable
Especially for RTS games on the Deck, customizing controls to your preference is recommended.
Trading is compromised, unless you want to constantly oversell, since you can only increase amounts in steps of 20 due to issue noted below.
Locked 30 FPS
UI can be scaled via options for bigger text, though it appears a little blurry
The game does not take any input from the virtual keyboard, making trading unrealiable since you're only able to increase item amounts in fixed steps via buttons.
The game plays pretty much flawlessly and you'll get through the whole game just fine. Only the virtual keyboard not working properly is my major gripe. For some this might not be an issue.
Locked 30 FPS
Due to the games uncommon control scheme, modifying your input layout is recommended. The game's max resolution is 1024x768, so expect letterboxing.
Locked 30 FPS
Initial load time is rather high, even for the 512GB model.
Even though Valve reports that it's not possible to adjust the game's settings so it would run fine, it does run fine for me with locked 30 FPS. Grass seems to be a major performance hog, turn it off and it runs fine. Make sure not to restrict FPS via the ingame options, use the Deck's dot menu instead.
Runs just fine.
Intro didn't seem to play/game "got stuck" on a black screen upon start, but simply pressing Esc will bring you to the menu.
Used protontricks to install the following Windows component/dlls:
- directmusic
Locked 30 FPS
Most ingame text is generally small due to the UI scaling with the resolution
Needed to use protontricks to fix music not playing
Videos are not working but this has been an issue with Gothic on modern systems generally. Installing the system pack from https://www.worldofgothic.com/ could fix this, but I haven't tested this yet on Steam Deck.
The following components are checked in protontricks: dmband, dmcompos, dmime, dmloader, dmscript, dmstyle, dmsynth, dmusic, dmusic32, dsound
Locked 30 FPS
No issue to report at all.
Sometimes cutscenes won't play (audio only), other times it'll freeze a cutscene at the start for several seconds in a black screen and then resume normally.
While the rest of the game works just fine, the issue I'm having with cutscenes in a game that is highly story-driven is very frustrating as it can take you out of the action during tense or otherwise important moments.
Runs pretty much perfectly on Steam Deck out of the box. As others have mentioned, intro video does not play.
Locked 30 FPS
I've turned off grass as others reported crashes. Ingame scripting also works out of the box, no protontricks needed.
Installed xOBSE and native controller support mod (NortherUI vanilla)
Locked 30 FPS
Out of the box the game already works great with keyboard and mouse mapping. There is however a great mod (NorthernUI) that allows for native gamepad input along with the original Xbox button icons showing in the UI.
As Vortex dosn't work for me I needed to do the following for mods to work:
- OBSE - Don't use the regular OBSE from obse.silverlock.org, use xOBSE instead :https://github.com/llde/xOBSE You will need to replace the OblivionLauncher.exe in the game folder with the obse_loader.exe (rename and replace) in order for Steam to run OBSE.
- Copying mod files - Somehow it's important to not copy and merge folders into the game folder. Copy the single files instead. Otherwise Oblivion will throw a weird error, saying that there are no game files present.
- Using SkyBSA (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/49568) is recommended and might make my point above obsolete, thogh I haven't tried.
Install TFix Light
Thief with TFix Light (not the full TFix as far as I've seen) has working joystick support for movement. Set the left stick to be used as joystick instead of a keyboard mapping for a very smooth experience. Everything else needs to be mapped to keyboard and mouse, still.
Locked 30 FPS
Out of the box it doesn't really work as the game will be extremly slow and stuttery. TFix is a must, at least on Steam Deck.
T2Fix is needed to get this game to run properly: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149669
Locked 40 FPS, though battery life is not an issue at all with this game.
Crackling can happen after installing T2Fix and enabling EAX. If you want to use EAX, you need to remove the file "OpenAL.dll" from the game folder (if you chose to install it during the installation of T2Fix in the first place).
Extremely low FPS without T2Fix
Joystick can be turned on in the settings menu to allow for smooth thumbstick movement but only that. All other keybinds have to be bound manually via Steam Input.
The game seems to run just fine. The repeatedly reported bug of levels/scenarios/anything not loading can be fixed with the following (quoting a post by Sawta):
"You will not be able to run outside of Quick Drive if the directory starts with a period. Make a custom directory. I.e. /home/TrainSim and move the game inside of it.
In Steam: Settings -> Downloads -> Steam library folders -> Create a folder in /home that does NOT start with a period (/home/TrainSim) -> Select that folder -> Select the game -> Move -> Select the new directory"
As mentioned in other and my own PC reports, as long as the game is installed to a path not containing any periods the game will load maps just fine. So for Steam Deck you either install it on the SD card or create an alternative library folder (e.g. /home/Games/SteamLibAlt) to install the game to.

General custom remapping to ingame controls
Locked 30 FPS since it's a turn-based game
The interface in general is rather small
The game runs with no problems, other than the UI being small for the Steam Deck.
The game runs just fine with no issues at all.
Just testing the game, not really playing it, there are no issues at all. Music and sound also plays correclty.
In Game Mode, it will get stuck at the spinning Steam logo. In Desktop Mode, you will at least get to the launcher, but upon starting the game you'll get a black screen. Hovering over the game icon in the panel it will show an error message:
"Error opening video. Check your display settings! Further information can be found in the manual or readme.txt!"
Since it works with zero tinkering on my desktop PC (also a Ryzen CPU but Nvidia graphics) I believe it a Steam Deck specific issue, maybe concerning the APU and or drivers.
