Seems to run fine after running a line in Terminal. DayZ needs a higher max_map_count: sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=1048576
and this line makes it permanent: echo 'vm.max_map_count=1048576' | sudo tee /etc/sysctl.d/vm.max_map_count.conf
Then you need to set launch options: -nolauncher -nosplash -world=empty -skipintro
These things made DayZ run fine for me in Linux Mint. Thanks to kostaspk and Gamingonlinux.com for providing some of this info.
Able to run the game before Proton version 6.3 now black screen
This is an update from my previous Contribution.
After posting a successful game install and run, I got a Proton update from version 6.3-8 to 6.3? Im not sure why but now I only get a black screen that I have to Force Close. Im not sure where to go from here
I have 2 other reports on this game. the first report was how well the game works, the second report about the game not working.
Now with the latest experimental update all is well. You still have to use the terminal Sudo command and the launch options but it works once more.
Game freezes on start up
I get to the small splash screen and then I get a "LowLevelFatalError Line:258"
Its becoming a theme, Game crashing on start up or Black screens on start up (with all my non linux games)... Proton Still needs work.
I was able to run this game before the last Proton update.
I was able to run this game, though I would get kicked thanks to anti cheat not working correctly. Now after updating to 6.3 I cant get the game to run at all...
It will load up, but then I get the dreaded black screen (like all the games I try to run with proton) that I have to force close.
Its seems to be a hit or miss depending on what has updated...
I usually have no trouble playing Surroundead. But when thereis an update to the game or to Proton, I am not sure which is the problem, The game no longer launches. Or is says its launched but I have no game on my screen. Switching between Proton Versions does not help. The funny thing is, after about a week from what ever updated, The game will suddenly work. Its a real mess sometimes and a hit or miss.
Worked great until latest update
This was the first game I tested (single player) using proton. Worked great until last week when proton updated for some reason, now the game doesnt load and I have to force close when it locks up my screen.
Same old story for me... black screen on launch.
Seems strange but after the latest update, every game I try to play using proton gives me a black screen. I have tried every tip and trick that comes my way but I only see the same results.
