Cloud saves don't work with 7 Days To Die
When going near cities and buildings, the models and such have to load which causes slight freezes and frame rate drops, does not reach 60 FPS. Usually stays around 40-45 FPS. However, this game has serious optimization problems to begin with, in my opinion, as long as it runs above 30 fps, its playable. I really feel it won't be able to handle horde night once it get past day 35 or day 42.
When first creating a world, it takes forever to load, and even after creating the world, it still takes a long time to get into the game.
You have to use the touch screen to hit the Play button on launcher that comes up.
Just install and click play, then tap the Play button in the launcher that pops up and you should be good to go, change the resolution if you like.
Works flawlessly on Linux
If you like Runescape, you might like this game since its made by Andrew Gower, the founder of Jagex.
When first launching the game, Punk Buster has to be installed and initialized/tested.
in-game text like "Press and Hold F to rebuild barriers", but the text in general is pretty pixelated anyways.
The controls need to be changed from Steam itself and set to all the corresponding keys that you need to play the game, and would need changed based on whether your playing Campaign or Zombies in my opinion.
Recommended Changes
Change in-game in Options > Controls > Combat and set Aim Down Sights (ADS) to the Right Mouse, which with the community layout would be the Left Trigger.
Change the resolution of the game in the Options > Graphics > Video Mode and set it to 1152x720
Works fine with the standard proton versions, I just have everything defaulted to GE.
If you played the first game on linux, this game would be just as fun, if not better.
The shaders and loading new assets causes slight performance problems here and there but in all, its still running really well.
Runs really well, I completed the first game in its entirety, and this game I assumed would run the same, and it does so far.
Game runs perfectly fine from what I have found at the default settings, it automatically chose low graphics, but its hard to even tell that its set to low on the 1200X800 resolution, so its fine. I'm honestly surprised the Steam Deck was able to get through the loading screens in only a few seconds it seemed.
Performance Heavy Areas I tested include:
Lexington - Only minor dropped frames at around 48 FPS for a second or two, then it stays at a stable 60 FPS.
Boston - Only minor dropped frames at around 48 FPS for a second or two but it was a little bit more frequent, but to be expected, then it stays at a stable 60 FPS
However, when on top of one of the skyscrapers and you look straight down onto Boston, the FPS can dip down to about 37, but if your just casually playing, you probably won't notice when fighting and looting.
Only thing that happened was that on first boot you have to sign in to your microsoft account which REQUIRED you to manually bring up the steam keyboard with the Steam button + X, not a big deal. Also, on first boot, I tried to load campaign and it froze the game, but everytime after, it proceeded to load the campaign just fine.
Game ran fine. Cutscenes played w/launch option + Proton-GE, otherwise cutscenes were blackscreen and just audio
SteamDeck=1 %command%
There was only a very very slight crackling sound, I had to turn the master volume down anyways and its pretty much gone.
Most cutscenes seem to run in a lower FPS than the rest of the game, I believe this is intented.
HTC Vive worked out of the box, tutorial area seemed to work without issues. Once loaded into the city the game lagged pretty bad for me. Not sure if it was the game or proton but the shadows appeared to be in the shape of triangles and just generally don't look right.
Game worked right out of the box with a controller. Just had to change the resolution of the game from the in-game menu.
Pretty fun game, really nails the PS1 asthetic.
There was a shadow of sorts off in the distance that didn't make any sense, but it wasn't always noticable so I don't mind it.
Does not have Steam cloud support for save games
Only thing I can say here is that the button prompts in-game are for keyboard and mouse and doesn't display controller icons of any kind, but the controls work just fine.
Might need to turn Vsync on as I noticed it locked itself to 30 FPS and then changed to 60 FPS when I turned on Vsync. Other than that, game ran very well.
Works perfectly fine with proton 3.16-8 beta, nothing else had to be changed. I will note that it closed out of the game on proton 3.16-4.
Game runs fine, although, would recommend installing the unofficial patch to play the game considering how this game can be pretty broken as is.
Works out of the box. No Tinkering. Coop/Multiplayer works
Only just started the game, was playing with a friend. No slow downs, game is capped at 60 FPS. Didn't even have to switch to any other Proton version to get the game working. Highly recommend this game if you like Lord of the Rings and survival sandbox games.
Would highly recommend playing this game to anyone interested, the game literally just works out of the box on the Steam Deck at 60 FPS.
Works right out of the box, just hit install and its ready to go. Gameplay and performance feels like the game is running natively on the Steam Deck.
