Native version and Proton 5.0-2 crashed on launch but Proton 4.2-9 has worked great without any issues.
Launching with Proton 7.0-3 works perfectly except controller is not detected. With the recent v3 updates of the game in 2022, Proton version 6.3-8 results in crash upon launch of v3. Legacy Lauch (v2) still works with controllers.
If previously installed, you will need to reset the controller configuration options to their new default in the Steam settings, "Crypt of the NecroDancer Standard Controls (Beta)." After starting co-op, player 2 must give first input. Otherwise, player 1 will control both characters.
v3.0.0 of Crypt onwards requires Proton 7+. Launching Crypt v3 with Proton 6.3-8 results in an immediate crash. Legacy Launch (v2) still works with Proton 6.3-8.
As others have said, in-game microphone and Discord integration do not work but otherwise the game is as good as native.
