I tried to start it before, but didn't work at all. But when I launched it today (after just getting Proton updated), it ran out-of-the-box, including video and gameplay?!
Runs perfectly using keyboard and mouse. No german audio, but turned out that's not a technical issue...

Runs perfectly using keyboard and mouse. Same issue as under Windows, the Steam language selection does not work, see https://steamcommunity.com/app/319080/discussions/0/485623406944068726/ Once I removed the other languages from GAME\Languages, audio and subtitles were correct.
Game didn't start at first, I had to change the wine prefix to WinXP WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/301830/pfx/ winecfg Now runs perfectly using keyboard and mouse. Haven't tested game controllers yet.
I tried to play the game via SteamLink on a Raspberry 3 B+, using a 8bitdo SN30 Pro controller via Bluetooth, connected to a Ubuntu 18.04 box with Steam/Proton on it.
The controller wasn't detected by any Telltale game, while other Windows games were able to use it. So looked into the WalkingDead101.exe binary, and found that a.) it uses DINPUT8 only, and b.) it was looking for Gamepad name "XBOX 360 For Windows". Using a spoofing dinput8 dll from https://sites.google.com/site/tocaedit/files / dinput8-x360cev21.zip , I got the controller detected and working.
