The game runs very well with Glorious Eggroll Proton 6.16 GE1, turn off volumetric lighting.
Volumetric lighting causes significant performance hit.
The game itself is horrifying, and not too difficult to get immersed in.
When loading into a map, I noticed that the area around the campsite is laggier than the actual tomb, so gameplay shouldn't be too hindered by that. I had a consistent 60-ish fps in the tomb, around 30 at the camp above the tomb.
Ran with Feral Gamemode.
Game works perfectly so long as you install it with Proton 5.13-4. It literally just works.
Multiplayer works perfectly, barring servers you join that have HORRIBLE ping but we only got those maybe 15% of the time.
I also saw that people had issues with high-polling mice were causing lag, which I did not experience here.
One thing that may be an issue now and then, is the Squad system borking out, requiring a restart to fix. It only happened once with me and my friend, basically made it so when I invited him it was infinitely loading. Other than that, no issues.
Great gameplay overall. Performance is great, but shadows/lights need lowering on GTX 1060. Multiplayer requires setup.
Multiplayer ONLY works with Proton Experimental specifically, at the time of this writing.
Multiplayer will work perfectly after doing the following steps
Steamplay must be set to Proton Experimental. Proton GE will not work with multiplayer for some reason.
These ports must be forwarded:
- 5222 TCP+UDP
- 6666 TCP+UDP
- 7777-7827 UDP
Your hosts file needs to contain the following:
- 13.49.73.86 stun-1-nat.ol.epicgames.com
- 16.170.15.254 stun-2-nat.ol.epicgames.com
On Manjaro (and Arch-based builds) run the command
sudo nano /etc/hosts
and add the two addresses at the bottom of your hosts list. This will change your NAT type in-game from TBD to Moderate. You need to Not be connected to your Epic Games account. You can log out of it in Options > Online.
You need to disable Send Gameplay Data in game settings.
You can also turn up your Network Quality setting, as we found almost no difference in performance and this will likely improve connection to the host.
With all that done, you can either click Join on a friend who's world is set to Friends Only, or accept an in-game invite. Steamworks is apparently not used in this game since there's no option in the Steam overlay to join/invite friends in the friends list.
