To fix missing/low res textures, added the following to launch options (properties, general tab > set launch options)
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% -nointro
Disabling esync and fsync fixed it
Native version no longer supported, use Proton/Steam Play instead
If you're looking to play with people on Windows, note that the native Linux version is no longer supported and you won't be able to join Windows version games due to a version incompatibility, so I'd say the Windows version via Proton is preferable at this point.
Directions on how to do that here: https://www.protondb.com/help/troubleshooting-faq#how-do-i-run-a-game-with-proton-even-though-it-has-a-native-linux-version
I have tried adding it (as a non-Steam game) and it won't launch. We don't know yet if the official Steam release will fix this, however if you're interested in this game on Linux, the non-Steam version runs flawlessly on Lutris
Works great vanilla, some difficulty with HW2RM and Players Patch
Gearbox video on booting up is glitchy but it doesn't impact gameplay at all.
I couldn't get the 2.3 Players Patch to work on the Homeworld 2 Remastered single player, but it worked fine on the Homeworld 1 Remastered single player and multiplayer.
Some performance issues at ultra settings, works as intended on high
Fullscreen would boot in a scaled down window and maximizing the window didn't fix. Borderless window works as expected, though
Ultra settings at 1080p ran poorly, very choppy, however high settings at 1080p ran perfectly fine. Unsure what the specific issue is, but the high preset avoids it.
If you're having issues with multiplayer, reboot the game with Proton 4.11. After going into the Anomaly (multiplayer lobby) once, you should be able to switch back to the latest version of Proton and continue multiplayer.
Slow at first going into new areas, seems to be fine revisiting old ones
Black screen on first boot. Worked on second and subsequent boots. Need GloriousEggroll's Proton fork. It's useful for a lot of games and an easy install.
Runs well with controller
Mouse restricted to top left quadrant. Keyboard and controller (Xbox 360) work as expected
On first boot, it'll take you to the config menu, even if you select to launch into the game. Toggle an option, hit OK, stop the game, and then restart right into the game. Worked fine for me then.
