Renamed Launcher.exe to Borderlands2.exe and vice versa.
Since the developers unfortunately let the native Linux version become obsolete, the proton enforcement is necessary for cross-platform multiplayer games.

Too many errors and problems to give a higher rating. Sound output runs only with tricks, multiplayer not possible and also otherwise very buggy.
needed to install protonticks and run these commands as others stated:

Version 1.20 freezes when starting one of the tutorials. It is necessary to go back to version 1.10 via the Steam version selection, which does not cause any crashes.
Runs perfectly out of the box. No adjustments necessary. Game completed.
