The launcher is finicky, but I got everything working by following a few simple steps: https://gist.github.com/FWDekker/9d1fc47083bcf93edfe2c4460ebf2319
Game installs but does not launch
Added Gw2Setup-64.exe as a non-Steam game. I can start the launcher and install the game using either Proton Experimental or Proton 6.3-8, but if I try to log in I get an error telling me it cannot connect to the log-in server. Other reports indicate that Proton 5.0-10 worked for them, but if I try to open the launcher using that version I get an error in Steam: "Failed to launch Guild Wars 2". This also happens with all other Proton 5.x, 4.x, and 3.x versions available. I have been unable to find a way to get the game to launch :-(

Sometimes, after exiting the game, you get an error message. No idea why.
Do NOT use the native Linux version. It's old and broken: The game will fail to launch, and even if you somehow work around that, multiplayer won't work, and you're missing content updates. Instead, run the Windows version through Proton. That works great.
When using the game's own fullscreen mode, I get "ghosting" textures and audio glitches. The former means that if I walk around, my character's sprite moves correctly, but also leaves behind copies in the old locations.
A workaround is to ask KDE to force the window into windowed fullscreen. (By right-clicking the window's title bar, then "More options", then "Fullscreen". Alternatively: Alt+F3, Alt+M, then Alt+F.) (I bet Gnome can do something similar.) After doing that, I got the fullscreen experience I wanted, and I experienced zero glitches.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm.dll=n,b" %command%
Significant stuttering while running through the world. However, this is apparently a common problem, even on Windows.
The "winmm.dll" thing is for the "Universal Achievement Unblocker" mod.
Does not work with multiple monitors enabled. When I had multiple monitors, after pressing the first "OK" button, a few screens with logos appeared, and then my computer would freeze completely with no way to recover. But after disabling all monitors except one, this bug no longer occurred!
