Perfectly playable, even though I can't increase the resolution (a problem that occurred in Windows 10 too)
Using Proton Experimental, the games works perfectly fine on full screen, alt+tab or meta button doesnt crash the game. The only issue is i cannot activate 3D acceleration in the options menu where supposedly makes possible to set a high resolution, but this problem already appears when I playing the game on Windows 10, so...
Runs perfectly fine - even better than Windows
No tweak required, the games runs perfectly. Note to in this version i'm able to put the game on fullscreen with audio working, thing that i dont have sucess when was playing in Windows 10.
Running a prefix made it possible to configure the game and then play it perfectly, even with frequent slows downs.
It's definitely because of my PC's weakness.
Due to my PC having little memory and no video card, even opening the game to run at 640x480 it presents small slows downs, but constant.
Executing the command on my Manjaro OS:
WINEPREFIX = "$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/203650/ pfx" WINEARCH = win64 winetricks dotnet20
I was able to start the game settings and then play it. Previously I had not been able to, but after installing Wine correctly on my PC I was able to run the game. As stated earlier, the game suffers to be 100% playable because of the frequent slows downs, but possibly this is due to the weak hardware of my PC.
I was unable to disable Vsync. There is no option in the game settings menu, or in the game's .cfg file. It would certainly run better if I managed to disable Vsync.
Despite everything he is playable.
Run perfectly
Quite impressively for me, the game ran perfectly without any extra configuration. The game application for config opens without problems - it fully recognized my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and my modest Nvidia driver. The games runs perfectly even at the highest quality graphics settings. The intro scene has a slight glitch in the animations, but other than that, it didn't hinder my gameplay or other graphical glitches.
Only a prefix makes the game perfectly playable.
Initially I tried to run the game using only Proton. The game was on a black screen and then closed on its own. As I use Manjaro OS, I followed the steps on this site https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine, installed Wine plus the dependencies described in the article, and then ran the prefix in the terminal:
WINEPREFIX = "$ HOME / .local / share / Steam / steamapps / compatdata / 200940 / pfx" wine "$ HOME / .local / share / Steam / steamapps / common / Sonic CD / directx / DXSETUP.exe"
And then a DirectX installation window appeared, I installed it, and then the game ran perfectly.
My generic USB controller worked perfectly in the game too.
If I just let Sonic Mania only application running I can play in 1080p without problems.
In my case it's because no decent video card I have. The game chokes slightly when playing at 1080p and if there are any other applications open. If I just let Sonic Mania run I can play 1080p without problems.
Running perfectly after enable using Nvidia GPU on launch seetings
Initially the game only ran the menus well, the game itself had a good drop in FPS during fights. After searching and entering the command
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 %command%
Which you can do by right clicking the game in your library Steam > Properties > General > Launch Seetings (this works for any game, in practice), just paste the command there and you're done! And of course you obviously need to have an Nvidia GPU and updated drivers.
After that, the game ran perfectly.

Inicialmente o jogo só rodava bem os menus, o jogo em si apresentava uma queda boa de FPS durante as lutas. Após pesquisar e inserir o comando
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 %command%
