40hz
Not sure if I like the game, but it plays well on the steam deck. Getting 60fps. Reduced to 40 to try to increase battery life.
Works great. Long battery life. Only issues are that it isn't always obvious which element in the UI has focus, so you sometimes have to move the focus around unneccessarily. Might be a good idea to disable the trackpads. I've touched them by mistake a couple of times.
Switching from steam deck controls to an external PS4 controller mid-game did't work. You have to restart the game to switch controller.
Occational drops from 60fps to 59fps when playing on an external 4K screen upscaled from 1080p (FSR). Noticable, but doesn't affect game play. Runs well over all. Doesn't draw much power either. Felt no need for tinkeing.
English subtitles are small and with poor contrast to light backgrounds. A couple of mini games and one selection screen has really small text where you have to use the Steam Deck's zoom feature.
The audio sounds choppy in two scenarios: 1. when watching videos in the phone app in the game (not core gameplay) and 2. two scenes in the final chapter. I think there's an effect or something on the sound that goes wrong there. No big deal, though. Volume varies between scenes.
Works out of the box. Starts up in English. Text can be a bit hard to read, but otherwise a smooth experience.
Tried both default proton and forced Experimental
Missing videos. Splash video at start up and "scent" videos all just show a test pattern. No actual game videos.
Works great out of the box. Just don't change the display settings. Audio issues 2-3 times in a full play through.
Had audio issues after waking deck from sleep a couple of times (sped up and crackling). Had to restart the game to fix. Happened 2-3 times during a full play through.
The initial display settings support full screen on steam deck, but if you change the display settings you can't change them back to the initial settings. You have to reinstall the game to fix it, so DON'T TOUCH THE DISPLAY SETTINGS.
Load times are great on the steam deck compared to the PS4. Enjoyable to play on the Steam Deck. Half-rate shading doesn't look like it's doing anything at first, but it makes the rust in the game look worse, so leave it off.
Starts fast. Runs great. Low power draw. Only minor drawback is that it only uses 720 pixels of the screen (black bars at top and bottom).
Added keybindings for skip and fast forward, but those features don't work.
Fast forward and skip features don't work with controller, trackpad, external mouse or external keyboard.
Works well. Video plays and all features except skip, fast forward and rewind work.
Works great with default settings. Increasing antialiasing will slow down the game a lot, so leave it at the default values.
40 fps, TDP 10W
a couple of times the audio was choppy after waking from sleep. fixed by restarting the game
Misreports time played on steam deck. 37 hours in-game became 20 on steam after the steamdeck tried to count off the "sleep" hours when syncing to steam.
Save battery with 40fps. More ergonomic to use grip buttons instead of shoulder buttons for firing the pod.
The text is small and there's a lot of it. It's readable, but barely. Good business for opticians from people playing this game that realize that they need a new prescription.
When upgrading cards you need to grab the screen with the right trigger and then scroll with the track pad to see cards that are off screen. Scrolling using the touchscreen doesn't work.
Some videos play, but when the scene changes the video goes black. You can retrigger the video by opening the menu and then clicking continue, but it will skip the entire scene. Works on Windows PC, but not on Steam Deck.
Played half the game without black bars (edited Engine.ini)
Frame rate limit at 30 fps
Using FSR3 gave artifacts on small highlights and glimmers. This was fixed in the patch that came out the other day.
Using Intel XeSS upscaler worked best for me. 25-30 fps using "auto" (effectively "performance"). Everything set to "Low" except effects and post processing which you can crank up if you want. The FSR3 upscaler had a lot of artifacts, so I switched to XeSS. The artifact issue was fixed when I was half-way through, but I stuck with XeSS since it gave me better frame rate.
Disabling the black bars (playing in full wide screen) drops the fps by 2-3 fps maybe. I think playing without tinkering is fine. It gives a more claustrophobic feel in caves. I experienced a couple of hickups when playing full-screen that didn't occur when playing in ultra-wide.
Use windowed mode to use the steam deck's built-in FSR, but I didn't find a way to set the resolution low enough to make it usable or better than the upscalers you can choose in the menu.
The text size can be increased in the menu. The game devours your battery. Best played plugged in. Played through the entire game on Steam Deck.
"start with mods" doesn't work. Regular game works. Running mods installed separately works.
When using the touch screen while in controller layout and then going back to using sticks, the game gets confused and you can no longer aim using the sticks. Had to restart to get it back to normal.
I get 6 hours at 60 fps. On first start after install the resolution was set to 1280x720, but could be changed to 1280x800 but can never be changed to anything but 1280x800 once it's set. Text can be made larger with the "larger text" option, but some cards overflow a little bit with large text.
Reduced TDP limit, but doesn't make much difference
Picture is 16:9. Keep frame rate at 60Hz 60fps. If it's lowered to 40Hz the game slows down. Some minor drops in frame rate, but very enjoyable. Played 13 hours so far on Steam Deck.
