If you use an arch based distro, xivlauncher on the aur is the way to go. Search "xiv launcher aur" on google and follow github instructions

The game works fine with proton 9.04 on steam. If you want to install plugins, it works perfectly with xiv launcher on steam. It's actually amazing how well it runs. I'm getting the same fps as windows with smoother alt tab functionality.
Runs perfectly with no frame drops on max settings. Use Proton GE and run in Borderless windowed, vsync off.
Very very occasional frame drops if I have a video playing on another monitor.

This game runs really well. Do note that I personally found GE Proton 10-10, and Turning Vsync on BOTH crashed the game for me.

Proton 9.04 straight up crashes for me at main menu, and the intro videos are colored static. Use Proton GE. I always use gamemode run, but not sure if its needed.
Works well with proton GE. LDpreload launch param fixes lag after ~1 hour of playtime. Played for 3 hours straight with good fps and no lag.

Shadows significantly affect performance. Turn these down as low as possible and keep the other settings normal. Endgame can get choppy, but it does that on windows too. Arguably more here.
The first time you open the overlay map, there's a freeze for about a second.
Proton GE and launch options are needed.
Runs out of the box perfectly. I always use gamemoderun. Proton GE gave me stutters... use 9.04

Everything works well, but be ready to turn down graphics settings to get the same fps as windows. Otherwise absolutely brilliant performance, even after long periods.
