PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
is needed to launch the game
Sometimes there are floating rocks, using Proton 5.0.10-rc3 and setting "lod_scale" to "3" in the game config seems to help with that.
VKD3D is pretty stable but the performance is not that great (20-40 FPS on medium settings on 1080p).
Since the game only supports DirectX12, DXVK cannot be used.
Works great using Proton-6.20-GE-1 (modding, Discord integration, DX12 and voice chat untested)
Proton-6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Slightly lower FPS than expected
~ 2 crashes in 8 hours of playtime (only during loading screens after missions)
I think the perfomance on Windows would be slightly better (I usually get 40-60 FPS in the hub and 40-80 FPS during large fights), but the game is very much playable. No problems with multiplayer as long as you use Discord for voice chat.

needs to be installed using winetricks
The native version works great so there is no point in using Proton, but if you still want to play the Windows version you need to use winetricks to fix a shader compile error.
Fantastic performance, almost better than on Windows. Everything works out of the box.
Does not work at all
I don't know if I'm stupid, but this game simply does not run with Proton on my machine. For a brief moment the Steam status changes to "In game", then the game quits almost instantly. I tested the Game with Proton 5.9-GE-2-MF, 5.0-9 and 4.11 and various launch options, including PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 and WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" (with SuperBLT installed), but still no luck at all. I have no idea what I am doing wrong here since this game has a Platinum rating and should work like a charm. Never had this issue before and I honestly don't know what to do. The proton log only shows a "Failed to initialize OpenVR" warning, but the Google results were not useful at all. Maybe I will try the Windows version again in the future, but for now there is nothing I can do.
I tested the native version for the duration of a safehouse raid (max settings) and everything was just as smooth as on Windows and I experienced no crashes or stutters.

winecfg virtual desktop
adjusting the games resolution breaks X11 screen configuration (e.g. reduces resolution and refresh rate), a virtual desktop solves this
the game crashed every few hours, but never during missions so it is not a big deal
I needed to enable the virtual desktop feature using winecfg, otherwise the game would break my desktop resolution and refresh rate so I needed to restart X.org
If you need to play with mods or want better performance the Proton version is the way to go, otherwise the native version has been a bit more stable for me
Great performance out of the box using Proton 5.0-9
The performance is very good, with Proton 5.11-GE the mouse sensitivity is too high and the game does not run as smoothly. Using regular Proton 5.0-9 everything works great.
Cursor and menus would randomly break when Alt-Tabbing
Something I could not click anything when Alt-Tabbing out of the native version
Hosting a game (both in-game and using the server, even in the same network and with port forwarding) as well as connecting to a game is completely broken
Runs very well out of the box
Really good performance out of the box, since I have not played the game on Windows I cannot make any comparisons. After about two hours of playing multiplayer the game started to stutter a lot, but I don't know if this is caused by Steam Play or the game itself (which is sometimes very buggy).
Sometimes fullscreen does not completely cover the screen and you can see a few pixels of the desktop on the right side.
The latest Proton does not work, the game crashes after the splash screen. Proton 4.11-13 works very well. The mouse sensitivity is extremely high, but as far as I know this is also the case with Windows. The game ran very well during one hour of playtesting.
