The current stable version works out of the box for me (and has done for over a year and ~250 hours of play). The only issue is that the game now hangs after saving (hadn't used to) but saves themself are not affected. Performance is ok not brilliant but can be improved by reducing graphical settings. Quite long load times even with SSD drive.
Note: I tried the current alpha version but performance was very poor so went back to the stable EA release.
Three crashes in 20+ hours of play all of which were near the end of each day!
Steam sync doesn't always work with this game, not an issue with any other game I have
Occasional hard crash, annoyingly seems to happen near the end of the day at furthest point from last save!
Always hard crashed a few minutes in to game at same point
Always crashed and required reboot when entering first 'mine' (where bombs are located). Tried Proton experimental, 9.0-3, 8.0-5 and GE 9-20 and all the start up options listed here but always crashed. Actually seemed to run fine while it was working!
Game also want to do a 10gB (shader?) download or integrity check each time it starts meaning a 30-40 minute wait before I could try new settings or proton version. I don't have enough time left on earth for that :D
Other than the small graphical issue I've noted (which only happens now and then) it runs flawlessly.
Occassional black lines between tiles when zooming in or out, maybe related to vertical retrace but a very minor issue.
Had to switch to Proton 4.11-13 otherwise the game would launch then immediately close. I've had one crash in almost 30 hours of play but that was before Adding Fajeth's MegaMod pack which improves performance and seems to fix many (not Proton related) annoying bugs.
Don't be deceived: may not have crashed even it it seems like it
Super-sensitive mouse setting by default
Seemed to get stuck on the initial logo screen. After three or four restarts thinking it had crashed I left it running. Eventually (after maybe a minute!) the logo screen gave way to the menu and it has started and played ok each time since; clearly some first-run code or assest loading was going on.
