You have to kill the game manually using the "Stop" button once it's done syncing your save games and achievements on Ubisoft Connect; it doesn't close on its own otherwise.

Proton 6.16-GE-1
When prompted after launching the game on Steam, "Config" doesn't start. Changing the lines in the DOA5LR.ini files (all 4 of them in the compatdata folder) does nothing. Game is permanently windowed no matter what I do.
Videos (like the Team Ninja video in the start of the game) are shown but are very choppy. This doesn't affect game performance.

Fixed by changing to DX10 in the game's settings
Might experience a tiny bit of stuttering, but otherwise fully playable

Proton 6.4-GE-1
Using the highest settings, even if you normally used them on Windows before, makes the game extremely slow. Autoconfig starts from these settings and is extremely slow because of it. According to your own PC build, start from "low" or "off" settings, then change two settings at a time and test them in a single player match on Kahndaq (since I found this is the one arena that has the most FPS dropping of them all), then if your FPS is stable, keep tuning up the settings. Once you reach a point where your FPS starts to drop, turn off one of the settings and see if it helps, then tune up other settings to see if you still have more room to enhance the graphics. Just make sure that Vsync is turned off. Frameskip might help improve things as well. Also if you use an Nvidia card, these settings will help you greatly: https://forum.level1techs.com/t/nvidia-gpu-settings-guide-for-better-performance/131660
I would advise to stick to the latest version of Proton if 6.4-GE-1 doesn't help you the same as it did for me. Changing Proton versions more than 5 times causes Denuvo to lock you out of the game for 24 hours. Don't be alarmed if this happens, just wait 24 hours and you will be able to run the game again. Mostly you won't need to use a different Proton version, just use the one I mentioned and make sure to fine-tune your graphics settings.
PROTON_NO_D3D12=1 %command%
Game starts in windowed mode (despite being fullscreen in the settings) and clicking the window a few times makes it fullscreen again.
Game won't get to the menu without using the "No D3D12" launch option.
gamemoderun %command% -cpuLoadRebalancing -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Inconsistent frame rate
It's okay despite the FPS being mostly inconsistent and choppy 60% of the time.
Proton 6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.20-GE-1 worked for me. mf-install is necessary to avoid stuttering or crashes during cinematic sequences.
Multi-screen display causes the game to stutter heavily and the solution was to disconnect the second monitor, delete the compatdata folder and use mf-install again. The issue was not reproduced with single display since then.

Game runs faster than it normally would on Windows: VS screens take less than a second and animations are noticeably faster and smoother.
Runs almost natively, zero issues
I used Proton 6.16-GE-1. Game works almost natively.
Proton 6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Cinematics won't work and will sometimes crash the game without mf-install. I used Proton 6.20-GE-1.
Sometimes the game would significantly struggle to render even if it had worked perfectly earlier. When this happens, delete the compatdata folder, run the game once, use mf-install, and it'll work as expected. You may need to do this every few sessions but it's worth repeating and doesn't actually take a long time.

DS4 controller not detected by the game. Unplugging and replugging the controller confirms that the game detects the controller but no button presses are registered.
Runs perfectly with Proton 6.3, but make sure to connect a controller before the first run
On my first run, my DS4 controller would not register any input because I plugged it AFTER I started the game. Deleting the compatdata folder and starting over again with the controller connected fixed that issue.
