Installed Windows version from Epic Games with Heroic Games Launcher. Using default Proton 8, game launched with a blank screen and no sound. By changing to GE Proton and checking the "Prefer system libraries" option, the game launched and was playable without issue.
Could not get a 4th controller working with native version of the game (detected, but not responsive to input). Forcing the game to run through Proton resolved the issue: all 4 controllers now working.
Native version of the game works great with up to 3 controllers. Forcing to run through Proton allows use of 4th controller.
Install a Windows DLL > Select d3dx9
GOG version of the game launched with Steam and Proton. Required installing DirectX 9 using protontricks to work. Without this, game launched with strange, blocky graphics and unable to see initial game menu.
Tried both Steam and GOG versions of the game. Required switching to Proton 5.0-10 for both versions. Otherwise cutscenes had distorted resolution and color artifacts, and in game transitions between screens were sometimes very slow. All of this was resolved with the older version of Proton.
Make sure numlock is turned on, otherwise the keyboard controls won't work (even when mapped to a controller)!
