Light Screentearing in some Scenes.
With standard Proton the FMVs do not play. No Problems with GE-Proton
Works out of the box
Game works out of the box with the default Proton Version 9.0-4. No special options or other special configuration needed. Just had to have a bit patience at first start, that took a bit. After that I only set the in-game options to my preferences. Have played the entire first level (medical) and reached level 2 (research) without encountering problems. Only thing I found is that it is not possible to tab-out of the game in fullscreen, but I am not sure this is a linux issue since I did not check in Windows. Changed to borderless windowed mode and than that worked too.
CPU-Core exhaustion causing Audio Issues and Input Lag
Audio stutters in certain situations. Mainly after going into the menu after a battle. This continues even after I leave the menu again and even continues into event scenes. Does not happen in Towns, only in places where enemies can be encountered. Seems to be the symptom of CPU-Core exhaustion, since when this happens one core is at 100%. This does not happen in Windows on the same hardware.
100% exhaustion of one CPU Core when going into the menu after a battle. Fades sometimes, but only permanent solution is to restart the game. Occurs almost every time in this circumstance. This also produces severe input lag, making field battles quite hard, since you most likely mess up the dodge timing.
Works fine if using XAudio 2 when on Intel/Nvidia, otherwise the game is not playable correctly on that hardware combination.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_9=n" %command%
Slight crackling sometimes.
Screen Tearing when VSync is activated. Disabled it and set framelimit manually, after that it was gone.
The game would slow down significantly, even though framerate was stable according to the FPS-Display of Steam. One CPU Core was permanently on 100%, same as in the previos game with the same results, at one point the game would become unplayable. This seems only to happen with Intel CPU/Nvidia GPU, as others with AMD Hardware don't report this.
If you are using an Intel CPU and or a NVIDIA GPU and you get the mentioned problems you can solve them by using the solution provided by user lugi (https://www.protondb.com/users/594087201) on the previous game. You can find the report here: https://www.protondb.com/app/2138610#QFOWFflDZC To cite his solution which worked for me on both games:
- Download the XAudio2 NuGet package: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.XAudio2.Redist/
- Extract the file "build/native/release/bin/x64/xaudio2_9redist.dll" from the package and place it into your game directory, same place as "kuro.exe", and rename it to "xaudio2_9.dll"
- Add the above launch settings in Steam
This solved my main problems and since then I can enjoy this game. Thanks again to lugi for originally providing the solution here and on the steam forums of both games.
