At the Residential area - the game crashed 2 times. This is most likely due the Unity game engine; it appears very heavy also on battery life for this title on Steam Deck.
Not the best of the DiRT series as stated by others also, but very enjoyable racing game on Steam Deck.
Lowered the resolution. Performance is bad with Nouveau (the open source GPU driver for Nvidia) but the game can be played. Proprietary Nvidia driver would most likely bring adequate performance.
Absolutely flawless OOTB-experience. Even the default community layout for controls was spot on. Zero crashes, zero bugs. 100% works.
"As if it was a native game"
Smooth running. All works. The default controls are very "arcade-like" so note that navigating the main menu.
The game works across the line as intended after switching to an older Proton version 4.11-13. A Frozenbyte classic.
Only the Proton version had to be switched to 4.11-13
Works pretty much as expected now (not entirely sure if the main menu's slowness is an issue generally with the game).
Indeed the game crashed one single time while saving / main menu. Doing all graphically as mentioned earlier appears to be of essence somehow to prevent this.
The main menu screen is a tad bit slow. Not a problem though.
The game crashed only once WHILE SAVING in the main menu - this didn't happen again though after doing everything without the onscreen keyboard (just put it down after typing a name for the save game and click the OK button graphically).
It worked out of the box to be enjoyably playable. Those mentioned glitches didn't effect the experience in any drastic manner.

There was no tinkering actually involved as Proton Experimental was activated by default (as many have). The game was played from a separate shared account - so does not show as an owned game.
