The Linux Proton Guy
Published
Just select the latest stable version of proton and enjoy. Here is a video of me playing the game so you can see for yourself how it performs! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH-udUZH4UI
Just launch with latest proton experimental and you should be good to go even for dlc and mods.
Just launch with latest proton experimental and you should be good to go even for dlc and mods. No need for the Arma 3 unix launcher at this moment as the games official launcher works now.
This game on my configuration works very well. I have however ran into issues on other distros. I am using linux Mint 21.
Games performance severly from alt tabbing.
Framerate issues only arise when alt tabbing on my setup.
This game on my hardware runs exceptionally well under linux mint 21 and proton 7.0-3. I have not done any tinkering whatsoever after my os install. I simply updated using sudo apt update, installed steam and was off to the races. I copied a pre existing install of deathloop off of my windows partition and clicked install, steam automatically discovered the files and it was ready to play within a few minutes.
This game on my hardware runs exceptionally well under linux mint 21 and proton 7.0-3 minus the alt tabbing issue.
The games fps drops significantly when alt tabbing.
Only when alt tabbing.

When screen capturing with obs the mouse jittered around the screen, this was solved by switching to window capture instead.

Despite the fps issues which you may not experience depending on Kernel version or gpu driver revision the game is totally playable.
The game will drop down to around 40fps when entering new areas. This issue did not occur for me on Endeavour OS which is running newer packages and linux kernel 5.18.
I have played a ton of this game with my friend. I was using linux and my friend was using windows 10.
I have not done any tinkering whatsoever after my os install. I simply updated using sudo apt update, installed steam and was off to the races. Despite fps issues when entering new areas the game is far from unplayable and is definately enjoyable. This game runs perfectly out of the box using the latest stable release of valves proton (6.3-7) under steam in linux.
Film grain is completely broken the game looks terrible with it enabled.
On my system in windowed mode the mouse jutters around in menus.
Use Glorious Eggrole if you don't want your fps to half, on experimental I got 60 and on GE I got 120fps Locked.
WARNING! Some reports say to use Proton Experimental, I recommend against this unless Proton GE doesn't work. I got 60fps with Experimental and 120fps with Proton Glorious Eggrole! I tested this game in Ubuntu the other day and performance was comperable but every old RE game including this one failed to launch and would throw up an error, that is because the game would force fullscreen 1080p 60hz and I have a 1080p 165hz monitor. The fix for this is to go to your proton prefix and find the games save file, edit the .ini and set the game to launch in Windows mode. Garuda is cooler than that though and it JUST WORKS!!!
(Reported experimental version: Proton Experimental)
I launched the game using Proton Experimental
You cant currently change the games graphics settings so everything is lower quality than it could be.
Switching to fullscreen using alt+enter made the game crass, but switching back to windowed mode from full screen did not make the game crash.
Pre Rendered cutscenes do not display properly im sure because mfplat.dll has not been implemented.
It seems to work fine on most hardware configurations with amd graphics cards but on my nvidia system its a mess.
Game would crash when changing display mode.
I found if the game crashed a single time on my setup across many linux distros that I have tested it never successfully launches without crashing again. This is with clean installing the game and deleting the created prefix of wine from the steam folder.
The game after one crash never launches again without instantly crashing.
