May need to add PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to launch options.
If having trouble with not being able to connect to online games, make sure you have a region selected. If you hit multiplayer, in the bottom right corner there is a globe icon that will give you options of regions and if none are selected you will be unable to join games.
Works out of the box
I have not gotten the achievements on steam but I have received them in the game's achievement system.
Game launches, videos do not plat
The videos that play on the screen do not play. The phone call audio works but the screens just stay static. You can hit the buttons that the guy tells you to, but you cannot actually progress past the first 30 seconds of the game. Installing MediaFoundationDLL or using different proton and protonGE versions did not fix the issue.
The Devs say that they want to bring the game to multiple different platforms (including linux) after the release of the full game. Hopefully they do this, but until then, it seems like this game will have to sit in the backlog.
It worked out of box using proton GE 6.12-1. I did not have to use the alternatevideo branch and could not get it to work with normal proton 6.3.5 or previous GE's. Now the game is playable out of the box with no video issues.
Game worked perfectly out of the box with both keyboard and mouse and a DualShock 3 controller.
Works well out of box, needs MediaFoundationDLL for 3dMark
The 3dMark jobs will cause the game to crash. This can be fixed by installing the MediaFoundationDLL. Those parts of the game are also completely avoidable so you can also just chose not to do them.
I was unable to get a controller connected and I tried many (Switch, Dualshock 3, and Dualshock 4). Also, don't bother customizing controls because they do not get saved and you have to reset them to default every time you boot up the game. Once the keyboard+mouse had their bindings set properly they worked fine.
Once the controller bindings are set they control fine. The native release was completely messed up, the mouse was inaccurate and I could not get into the settings to change the resolution to 1080p or change the controls.
Works very well
When the game first left early access the multiplayer would make the game crash when you clicked the menu, but now it seems to work fine
To get the Rocksmith Realtone Cable working I had to disable it in pulseaudio, set the audio to alsa and set the input in wine to the cable. Other people have given tutorials that I have followed in their reports. I am able to get the cable working fine, however, there is very high latency that I find unplayable even after lowering it as much as I could that was not there on windows.
With the most recent GE proton (5.9-GE-8-ST) it worked well. However, with the default proton it would not even start.
If I enter the steam shift-tab menu if causes the mouse input to not work.
I was playing the Gold Edition with all the DLC and experienced zero issues with those either. Overall, just use the latest GE proton.
If launch gives a black screen, put this into launch options: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1, PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1, PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS=1 %command% (no fsync may not be needed).
If you want to install the forged alliance forever client to actually play with other people, use these guides: https://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?title=Setting_Up_FAF_Linux https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv3ZXA4FNFk
Worked well with minor audio issues
Out of the box the voices are missing, but turning off ESYNC in the launch settings fix that.
Campaign runs well out of the box, have not tried multiplayer
I played two full runs of the campaign and had no issues other than Origin minimizing the game whenever I got an achievement. That may work better know since steam has added achievement support with the game.
