Works great natively
This game runs horribly on windows, and it runs horribly on linux, but that's just how this game is. The important part is that it is the same experience no matter what platform you are playing on.
Runs perfectly with steam proton
Amid evil works essentially out of the box using the recommended steam proton tools. I did not have to tinker at all to hit high frame rates with RTX enabled and the settings maxxed out.

Dark souls 3 Servers are still down as of 3/20/22
On rare occasion the game may drop a few frames, but it immediately corrects itself. Other than that, this game is great on proton.
I had to do a LOT of tinkering to get this game to even launch. Even then, It was unable to play above 35fps sometimes.

The game generally looks worse than on Windows, I get a lot of jagged edges, even with AA maxxed out in-game.
Screen tearing happened at the edges of the screen on occasion, though that may have been my own hardware setup.
As others have stated, my gamepad did not work out of the box, I had to change my desktop configuration on steam to get it to work.
I am unable to hit a steady 60 frames per second in any of the open world areas, even on the lowest settings.
I had issues getting past Elden Ring's EAC. After installing the game, deleting it from my drive and reinstalling it, I still could not get it to work. After 2 hard reboots, steam began to finally initialize EAC and go through the splash screen.
This game is very poorly optimized, even on Windows I get frequent frame drops (sometimes down to 45fps(ish) from 60) however, using the same hardware and settings, this game still runs far worse on Linux.
Game works equally on linux as it does on Windows, though you will definitely need to tinker to make it work.
Full screen setting reverted to window after rebooting game. Solved by using in game download profile feature on the character select screen
Movement inputs were being dropped while using mouse and keyboard. Mostly solved by in-game setting to limit mouse cursor to within game boundries, though it still happens on occasion when alt+tabbing back into the game.
You will need to download your character's profile and in game settings from the character select screen if you are using the square enix version of the game.
Online functionality is similar or perhaps more stable than Windows
If you are used to playing FFXIV through windows and have transferred to playing on linux, simply follow the guide on this website: https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck and you should be good to go.
The game runs just as well as on windows with very few hiccups, and if you used the XIV launcher method like I did, you may have an even better time with the preinstalled addons that come with XIV launcher (they can be easily disabled if you prefer that too!).
Fantastic performance
This game is as simple as hitting install and pressing play. It works just as well as Windows, or perhaps even better.
Crackling occurred during the first boss of the game, not experienced afterward however.
Tabbing out of fullscreen stopped me from being able to tab back in. The game runs better on full screen however, meaning you have to choose between having the game run poorly occasionally or losing your ability to multitask.
Game crashed after a cutscene on seperate occasions
This game runs pretty well on proton but I recommend launching the configuration tool first and setting the game to windowed mode at the very least.

Game works great out of the box, however I could not get the game to launch initially, no matter what version of proton I was running. The fix was to move my game installation from an NTFS based partition to an EXT4. After doing that, the game launched and ran just as well as it does on windows.

Make sure that you use proton experimental or the most recent release of proton. Using Glorious Eggroll causes frame hitching and audio crackling.
Disconnections happened on occassion, though this may not have anything to do with proton.
Again, make sure that you use valve's proton when running the game, otherwise you may experience performance problems. I also recommend using my launch commands for the best performance.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Frequent artifacting occurs, however it does not effect the gameplay outside of being rather annoying.
Game has frequent frame dips outside of combat; Inside combat it is significantly worse, dropping as low as 25fps on my rig.
A puzzle early in the game could not be completed as a result of a crash that occurred every time I tried it. This puzzle is mandatory to progress the game.
I do not recommend playing this on linux at all. It is a far worse experience on linux than on windows 10. This game struggles to maintain a decent frame rate, while still somehow looking worse and being more prone to crashing.

On rare occasion, no textures or character models will load. The menus will be available but everything else is black. You can even select a character and load into a black world where the only thing you can see is other players' name plates.
Multiplayer works similarly to Windows. You may experience crashing and frequent disconnects, however this will occur on all platforms.
This game works very well with proton, so long as you use launch options and pick the correct proton version.
