Might just be my compositor (hyprland), but when the game goes fullscreen I have to use my fullscreen keybind to make it go on top of some overlays (waybar). I haven't had this on any other games.
Sometimes crashes at the end of a game, when it would otherwise return to the main menu.
At launch I had to start the game with launch options WAYLAND_DISPLAY= %command% -sdlaudiodriver pipewire -vulkan -fullscreen
to make it start and have functioning audio, but removing those seems to work for me now.
Great experience overall, but no multiplayer
Sometimes there is only a black screen with audio upon starting the game, or when moving to a different window and back, but this is not frequent.
It is not possible to exit the game normally. If one selects "Quit to desktop", the game hangs and must be closed from the Steam interface. The doesn't result in data loss though, so don't worry.
Matchmaking (so anything involving interaction with other players) doesn't work. The game states there is no connection to the matchmaking servers. However, the online Discovery features (uploading bases, scanned flora/fauna, discovered systems/planets) have no issues.
This game is great, and the issues I've described don't get in my way generally. The worst experience-breaking problem is the lack of multiplayer matchmaking.
I previously had issues with multiplayer ("Unable to Connect to Matchmaking Services" which seemed to be affecting some Windows users as well), but that is no longer present. The issues with lower-resolution textures are gone now too.
This game is not released yet, it's in a public playtest through Steam. There are bugs in the game, but nothing seems to be Linux-specific. It's a fun game.
gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -f -r 60 -o 30 %command%
Gamescope is required, or else the game will stop displaying any video when unfocused, but continue running (I can still hear audio). I'm using hyprland 0.41.2 (wayland).
Proton GE is just because that's my default setting, I haven't tried without it.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=144 %command%
Functions as it does on Windows.
I'm limiting the framerate as otherwise the game runs uncapped, utilising more resources than necessary. I need to use Proton 7.0-6 as on Proton 8.0-2 and GE-Proton8-6 the game fails to launch, either exiting without opening a window, or showing as running in Steam without opening a window.
