I found it almost impossible to finish the game since you need to move quickly with your mouse and it is hard to do so with the steam deck trackpad. I had to drop it on island 2 because i kept on dying. Plus the in game controls listed keyboard keys and it is hard to figure out which is which on the steam deck.
I limited framerate to 60, ticked allow tearing, half rate shading on, limit tdp to 6 watts by default but i think you can go higher.
in-game texts (not subtitles) will be difficult to read in low resolution, in higher resolution it will be fine. subtitles are smooth. you don't need to read the in-game texts since there will be a subtitle for the important parts.
you can see a "white line" in the middle of blacksad's head most of the time in the cutscenes, but i believe it's mostly due to the low graphic setting
restarting the game might cause a bug that causes your controller to be detected in the menu, but not detected in the game. input for qte scenes are delayed. sometimes, the controller auto correct itself when you are trying to move your cursor to a certain hotspot.
some collectible cards are not showing in my first playthrough and only available after i redo some chapters. i believe this is also a bug in the game in general as there are a lot of discussions about it in steam and other console's forums. example: ps4: https://www.playstationtrophies.org/game/blacksad-under-the-skin/trophy/282148-sports-illustrated.html gog: https://www.gog.com/forum/blacksad_under_the_skin/sports_cards steam: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1003890/discussions/0/3356799628304959689/?ctp=2#c2271447149941720529
played in the lowest setting. to be honest, i was considering to play it on my laptop to use keyboard and mouse just to "fix" the qte and input bug, but the game has no cloud save. some people also reported these bugs happening in the pc version though so it might just be the game acting up. however, you still can 100% this game in steam deck.
The touchscreen isnt sensitive enough, though. You need to play with the controller and not the touchscreen.
You can open the keyboard screen by pressing steam + x button at the same time.
Works out of the box, but battery will drained quickly from playing this game since it is resource heavy
L4 to left mouse click, l5 to right mouse click, r5 to run
If you play with the default layout (controller), the game will freeze after you create a new profile
Controls are abysmall. It is hard to move straight because how the game works. Interacting with object sucks because sometimes the weird control that the game uses doesnt read my input. Plus it is hard to rotate the camera and check where everything is. I'll just switch back to desktop.
There are black borders on the top and bottom (in desktop the screen is full), probably because of the limited screen resolution, but it is not a big deal.
You need to use the cursor sometimes and the control can be confusing at the beginning (since it uses controller), but once you get used to it it will feel faster than playing on mouse
Works out of the box with proton 9.0-4. You cant play bigger sizes since you cant zoom in, though.
Need to switch proton or the game wont run.
Requires keyboard to play and text above enemy's head can sometimes be hard to read but it is playable until the end without trouble.
The text above the enemies' head sometimes can be hard to read, but it might be because i use a secondary monitor as well
The game slows down a bit a few times but it doesnt affect the gameplay much
Must use a keyboard to play.
Playable out of the box, it will be hard to play the big nonograms since you cant scroll but i played up to 25x25 and it is still doable.
Too much tinkering needed, and you most likely will spoil yourself of the puzzle solutions in the process.
A lot of the in game mechanics require tinkering of game files in windows. Wallpaper doesnt change even in the desktop mode and you need to run an exe file which is not allowed by the system itself. Plus, playing in the gaming mode is impossible since you need to look for a file in your steam deck directory.
I wasnt able to continue the game since i cant run the exe file. I'll switch over to windows. You should too.
Since steam deck's touchscreen isn't accurate, you might struggle to paint pixels accurately, but it is doable if you don't care about such things
Playable out of the box, only need to click on the play game button with the touchscreen after booting
Playable out of the box, only need to use touchscreen to click the play game button after booting
Change a to left mouse click
Achievements dont pop
I only played until chapter 1, the first call. I dont want to play further because the achievements dont unlock, but it is working fine so far - it's just that the controls can be hard since you need to hover around the screen with your mouse.
I limited framerate to 60, ticked allow tearing, half rate shading on, limit tdp to 6 watts by default but i dont think it is necessary to run this game; it is pretty lightweight
Playing with a controller is supported by default, but not recommended since you need to move cursor with the right analog stick and it is hard to be precise with it.
Recommended to play it with a mouse. Trackpad doesnt have a lot of area to cover and it can be exhausting to play with. I myself plugged in a dock to my deck just to plug my cabled mouse in, although i believe using a bluetooth mouse works as well. I tried to play it both from both TV and steam deck display and it works smoothly.
Playable as long as you use it just for reading the dialogues, some issues if you do other things.
A to left mouse click, b to m key, x to b key, y to d key, r2 to space key, l2 to ctrl key
Already read dialogues are colored in gray - it can be a bit hard to see, and the main menu text can be hard to read for some people since it only shows the shadows - but it should pose no issue to people with keen eyes
The mouse will hover at the wrong position sometimes, controls are not responsive in save load menu (you must use the touchscreen), and the controls dont work at all in cg gallery (had to close the game from steam)
If you just focus on reading the dialogues (ignore extra content like cgs), have small hands (the input in save load option is too small and tend to be afraid to misclick and delete my save by accident), you should be able to enjoy it. Technically it works and playable, it is just that the experience might not be as good as other games if you do anything aside from reading dialogues.
Works fine out of the box as long as you do some controller tweak and press the mix button with your controller instead of the touchscreen.
L1 to K, R1 to ctrl, R2 to left mouse click, L2 to right mouse click, R5 to mode shift (gyro), A to space, B to N, X to X, Y to Y. Download my VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action Controller layout on steam to get this layout.
When mixing drinks, you need to use R2 (left mouse click) to mix (especially when you put ice and/or age on the drink) because most of the time, the game will make them disappear if you use the touch screen.
Unable to write in the to do list
You can show the keyboard screen to change the title and time by pressing steam + x button.
B to e, x to r, y to f
Needs to be opened in desktop mode first because it will freeze in the gaming mode otherwise. Once you do are past that, you can play from gaming mode.
