The missing video aside it is a great experience with the Valve Index
Missing vIdeo in the first scene
The video which should be playing on the TV at the beginning is missing. A placeholder is displayed instead. Has probably something to do with unsupported video codecs in proton?
DISABLE_LFX=1 %command%
Works great now without much tinkering. The only thing I changed was forcing Proton GE before starting the game for the first time. The first launch does take some time though, as Proton needs to download some .Net dependencies (I think). The Steam integration in Bottles is really handy for installing content manager and the custom shaders patch.
Limit to 30 FPS
Works well with Proton GE downloaded with the ProtonUp utility from the app store. The first launch does take some time as mentioned by others. It runs pretty well. I got 60-80 fps on Laguna Seca in 1080p with high settings but no custom shaders patch.
Works pretty well without any tinkering
Artifacts especially in the interior of cars. Overall not too bad.
Apart from the small artifacts, it runs pretty well. I only tried very low settings and therefore had a smooth framerate, but the game doesn't run that great regardless of the operating system. However, the game is of course in Early Access, so that was probably to be expected.
Required changing swapfile und UMA frame buffer size to run smoothly (64GB LCD Steam Deck)
- Resized the swapfile to 8 GB using CryoUtilities
- Changed the UMA frame buffer size to 4 GB in the BIOS
- Set the GPU clock speed manually to 1600 mhz because the game would sometimes get stuck at below 5 fps with very low gpu usage
Limit FPS to 30
Minor artifacts on some textures, mostly noticeable on dashboards
The game does run quite well on very low settings with motion blur enabled at around 40 fps. Without any of the mentioned tinkering, however, the game would take forever to load and be stuck at below 5 fps.
Same issue as with Forza Motorsport due to an update. It displays the initial splash screen but then crashes immediately.
Works without tinkering
Overall great performance with default Proton Experimental and no tinkering
Unfortunately the only thing to see is the initial start up window of the game but then it immediately crashes as stated by others.
As long as the videos are downloaded the vr player is in my opinion the best free one I tried.
Browser is very slow - Youtube videos barely watchable
Did not have any issues now, but as previous reports show, it was broken for some time
It works really well, even though the game uses easy anticheat - thanks for enabling proton support embark studios :). It runs a bit slow, but I think that's due to the limited power of the steam deck. I get around 50fps in 1080p (desktop mode) on low settings with FSR on ultra performance.
All in all, great experience with Valve Index
The shipwreck exploration loads but then seems to be bugged. Not sure if it is just a general glitch in the game though because everything else works perfectly fine.
