Gamemode helps.
Multiplayer is VERY janky even on Windows. There is no single cure for this, you might be unable to join friends and matchmaking. Try restarting the game or even the computer. Opening NAT ports also helps. It's not a Linux problem, it's the game.
DirectX 12 was good before but now it's causing fatal GPU crashes on level changes, so DX11 is the only way.
Use -notexturestreaming command flag to disable texture streaming. Makes the levels load way longer but gets rid of microstutter.
Benchmark mode is optimized for high-level play, low-level fights don't usually have as many visual effects and characters fighting. Benchmark it.
Turn on Large Address Aware to get rid of random crashes. Otherwise the game crashes every 5 minutes in multiplayer. Proton version doesn't matter much.
Hard to find the mouse cursor in menus for some reason, I'm pixelhunting for the sell/buy button. Not a big deal except in vendor machines.
Played only in multiplayer, singleplayer is working fine in native version. If you see "cannot connect" error or a black screen, try restarting the game.
Game is very stable, but it crashed every 5 minutes until I turned on Large Address Aware switch. Try this. Also old Proton version can help, game is DirectX 9 anyway.

(AMD) Use the amdpro driver if you see microstutters during the walking.
Proton-5.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Use GE's Proton fork. It installs the basic fixes to start the game and play.
There is a nasty bug with missing video codecs after the last boss (20+ hours into the game) https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterWorld/comments/998xpi/xeno_save_corruption_bug_does_not_exist_proof/
You'll need to install the missing codec to the game's wineprefix or play the game on Windows to skip the cutscene.
