Runs perfectly well but a controller just doesnt feel right to me, but you could get used to it.
Moved some buttons around, still this game just isnt great with a controller.
Not sure why but on first boot the master volume set itself to 8 out of 100 making it very quiet, I had never set it to that on another system so not sure what that was about. Sounded normal once I moved it back to 100.
The community layout I tested was techically playable but I couldn't find a way to ping and some of the mappings were odd, with that aiming with a controller feels off for some reason in this game. Its very hard for me to track moving enemies or just line it up at all, maybe I just suck but I typically am pretty good at aiming with both a controller and mouse. I think its down to lack of official support as the mapping used keyboard an mouse bindings. If controller support is added I would imagine some aim assist and simpler mapping would make this a great experience.
In the shooting range it runs perfectly at ultra, but when you get into a match of 127v127 performance becomes rather unstable at Ultra, dropping it to medium allowed for a perfectly playable 60-50fps experience.
Outside of the performance change from shooting range the connection was excellent and the match was very fun with my wi-fi.
I would advise against playing on the deck if you dont have a Keyboard and Mouse to plug in, but you could technically get used to it. Still if you can get a Keyboard and Mouse and I imagine the deck could run this fine at 1080p too on a external monitor for the full dektop suite.
Outside of preference for controls the game runs fine out of the box. I pray for official integration for Controllers.
--launcher-skip
Not techically trouble but I reccomend applying the launch option I used to skip the red launcher and just going strait to the game, makes it feel more seemless and console-like.
Some very fine text not vital to gameplay in menus and in the UI are illegible or very hard to read, things like Current Weapon names and small visual flair around the hud. As well as while in the crafting menu, the amount of ammo produced when crafting it is extremely hard to make out to me. However none of these are major issues and all the vital info is legible.
On the "Steam Deck" preset on foot traversal through the city ran a decently solid 30fps with occasional drops down to 29-27fps, with vehicles moving at full speed through the main city areas it was also mostly solid at 30 with more frequent but short dips to 29-26fps, nothing unplayable and very enjoyable. At my personal settings which was the "medium" preset with some edits such as turning Film Grain, Chromatic Aberation, and Depth of Field on, Moving Motion Blur to "High" (no real difference with these just preference), Screen Space Reflections moved to "High", Ambient Occlusion lowered to "Medium", and Mirror Quality dropped down to "Low". All running at a Native 800p with no upscaling. With these full speed travel in a average car would see a near constant 27-25fps which is very playable and on-foot was sitting at 30-28fps. Which is still playable and a good option if you want a native res picture.
Just know the 30 lock will not be flawless and 60 is off the table.
Its a very impressive showpeice for the deck, and being able to get a near perfect lock if you lower some settings down to about medium and engage FSR is very admirable and deliver a great portable experience.
The tinkering I made is by no means required and if you just download and start the game without looking at settings at all you would effectively be carrying the PS4 version around with you, which is a great experience.
While it claims steam cloud was sycronized whenever I got on my deck I would be on a much older version of my account about 20 levels below my desktop one, missing steam items and newer weapons. Persisted after uninstalling and reinstalling and I even tried again after I did a full wipe of my deck and yet it still remained.
Game runs fine, controls are a bit clunky as a keyboard and mouse seem more comfortable for this game. But the save issue just kept me from playing on the deck since I can't make progress towards my current save.
