Sometimes the game would not let me tab back in or would crash when playing in fullscreen, setting the game to windowed locked the frame rate to 58 fps.
For anyone using the GOG or Epic version of the game wanting to use Viva New Vegas, you need to use Proton as all versions of Mod Organizer 2.5.0+ will crash with wine-ge. If you just want to play vanilla it just works, no tinkering required (apart from capping the FPS to 60 if you have a monitor with a refresh rate higher than 60 and want the physics and everything to work right but that's true for Windows too).
