I am surprised that at this current time you can have a playable experience with Battlebit Remastered on Deck with no official support
Will need to use a custom layout, at the current time there is no controller support
Initial loading into a match drops to around 2-4FPS, but then it's solid 60 afterwards
I loaded into the test range fine, and a 32v32 match at a locked 60FPS after an initial lag during initial map loading.
Steam Deck's FPS limiter is broken, it will run anywhere from 45-189 FPS unlocked, this can be solved with a console command
Shadows bug out often, some textures disappear, and water is bugged. Otherwise there's not many artifacts and is playable.
Slight hitching in certain areas drop to 45-50FPS
The main menu controller mapping is broken, use the touchpads to select and triggers to click instead.
Had to map a few more keys to buttons
Default settings are a bit high for the deck, lowered them to medium, shadows to low and got 40-50FPS
30 FPS Cap, Reducing Quality to Medium or Low
Almost no artifacting, some FX showed up black but that was it
The menu has a bug for new updates MOTD pops up, it will split between half M/K and Controller. You can accept by pressing Enter, then controller will work 100% as expected
NWI has stated that Online Multiplayer will not work, the game boots, plays coop, and can use the server browser to join NON-EAC servers. NWI is also a company that won't unban you in case they make a mistake, so users be wary until we get official support from NWI on Deck to play Matchmaking/EAC protected servers.
The intro cutscenes don't work either, complete black screen. Getting past the first menu just press A until the game starts. Once the game gets ingame, redering works fine. All Menus including pause menu are broken.
If you are down to put in the extra effort to get GE installed and configured, and play around with the settings it's pretty enjoyable.
Rockstar Games Launcher needs to be installed and will require a mouse/touchscreen, once completed it's no longer an issue
Some missions will freeze/drop to 9-12 FPS, Usually runs locked 30FPS otherwise
Without GE the game will launch but menus be blacked out/tiny/shadows not rendering correctly
There are hitches during intro scenes, loading took ages off of SD card
Random crashes during a few races, not sure if this is caused by Proton or the game itself
Nightmare of Decay uses one of the newer variants of Mono + Unity, and works very well out of the box
For whatever reason the Steam on Steam Deck refused to download the game 0b/empty folder. I cleared Steam cache, changed download servers, nothing. I think this may be a Steam issue more than a game issue, but I'm noting this here. But I got a workaround by downloading steam on my laptop (Windows 10) and installing the game, then FTP the files over to the Steam Deck's Nightmare of Decay folder.
Had to bind the left mouse click to left pad click, Also had to bind Q since that's used in the game. Otherwise WSAD worked mostly out of the box.
You can enable a Steam 30hz lock for better battery, or use VSync in the game to lock to 60.
Requires Proton Experimental (as of May 5, 2022), Proton 7.0 launched, but the look sensitivity was a bit high (even lowering it to max in-game settings)
