The game works, some versions of proton cause the game to crash and the titlescreen movie does not play but otherwise the game is rock solid
Some versions of proton are hit or miss with actually loading the game, it occasionally just crashes on the title screen but the game runs perfectly after that
The opening movie does not play
you can still enjoy the game, there are just some annoying issues
Fullscreen covers about 10% of the neighboring monitor
Animated Cutscenes do not play properly, which removes the main reason for buying this version other than steam cloud saves
Game works flawlessly, only negative is raytracing is unsupported on linux at the moment
Slowdowns and massive frame drops but running the game in game mode fixes this issue (install gamemode on your system and change steam launch options to say "gamemode %command%"
they will enjoy this if they've got the hardware, this game really depends on high fps for quick reactions and dropped fps can hurt the game
The logo and intro sequence the audio is pretty bad but the game itself and title screen function properly
entirely possible this is due to the lower framerate but my mouse cursor occasionally felt slightly offsync
in DX11 mode I noticed about a 10-15fps drop
in DX12 the game would frequently drop to 8-9FPS
On windows I would get an average of about 75-90fps depending on the section. On linux in DX11 I would get around 60-75fps
Other than some minor performance hitches (especially is cyber void areas) game runs flawlessly
Some areas, especially cybervoid can tend to see performance tank by 30-45 FPS
Game opens for exactly one frame then immediately crashes
Crashes with a stack overflow issue "0100:err:virtual:virtual_setup_exception stack overflow 1808 bytes in thread 0100 addr 0x7bc30ba2 stack 0x208f0 (0x20000-0x21000-0x420000)"
The game has minor glitches that do not effect gameplay and once anticheat roles out this game should be whitelisted by valve
Changing Audio devices softlocked the game and it had to be force quit
however it booted up using the new audio device so minor annoyance definitely not gameplay impacting
Minor artifacts (could possibly be a bug with the game itself instead of wine however)
also cutscenes would occasionally hitch (outside of the intentional hitches for artistic effect)
in full screen mode resolution was not properly detected and had to be set manually, minor but still an issue
as mentioned, switching audio devices in the game's settings caused it to crash
I downloaded the latest version of ucrtbase.dll from Microsoft and installed it. You can do this by running
mkdir /tmp/ucrtbase
cd /tmp/ucrtbase
wget https://download.microsoft.com/download/9/3/F/93FCF1E7-E6A4-478B-96E7-D4B285925B00/vc_redist.x64.exe
cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe
cabextract a10
chmod u+w "[/path/to/steamapps]/compatdata/976730/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/ucrtbase.dll"
yes | cp ucrtbase.dll "[/path/to/steamapps]/compatdata/976730/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32"
This allows co-op multiplayer in the campaign between Windows and Linux clients.
MAKE SURE TO REPLACE [/path/to/steamapps] with the install location of the game
my game was installed on a secondary hard drive so my path was /mnt/Linux_Games/steam/steamapps
default is ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/
for standard install and ~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/
for flatpak install
Campaign multiplayer between windows and linux devices does not work without the fix detailed above
Again, read the fix above to make co-op campaign work
Libraries are completely broken and the game is unplayable if bought from steam
I tried the fixes listed below and the game starts, prints out errors in a language I can't read, and then crashes. With proton it does not load past a black screen.
Game does not launch
wine says "could not find dependent assembly "Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
If you switch to proton 6.8-3 and don't mess with the settings you'll have a smooth stable experience
In full screen Alt-Tab can softlock the game or just straight up crash to desktop
Windowing can cause crashes, also run it on 6.8-3 or the game will crash on startup
Some Hitches performance wise especially in open world areas but the game runs very well otherwise
In open world areas moving the mouse around quickly or fast traveling can see the game freeze for a few seconds, usually after a few minutes and letting everything load in the game runs fine
Clicking outside the game crashes it (I have experienced this occasionally on windows as well so it may be an issue with the game and not proton)
Enabling steam overlay softlocks the game
Ubisoft Connect has issues with running in proton due to using 32bit software for their TLS encryption to their servers
installing lib32-gnutls fixes this issue and allows you to login to your ubisoft account properly
Singleplayer works and if Ubisoft ever clicks update on EAC and enables it for multiplayer the game will be worthy of a platinum rating
sometimes clicking while the game is booting up causes it to softlock, screen goes black if you focus on anything else (although this has happened with ubisoft games on windows before and may not be a proton exclusive issue)
Make sure to disable overlays as much as possible as they tend to make the game have issues during startup
