Game fails to launch after recent 5GB update
I can't download older version of the game with depot downloader and mono (I've heard it works) -- I've decided to wait till someone fix it :)
I had to add PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% to the launch options to pass through initial menu.
I had to add PROTON_USE_D9VK to steam launch options for better performance and crash prevention.
Works great, amazing, even, even with alt-tab -- the only issue being crashes when I try to summon steam overlay (shift + tab)

No mouse in Rockstar Game Club account linking (know issue, happens both on linux and windows :( )
Doesn't work
Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'ManagedStarter, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies.
I've made my custom proton version with newest wine-staging version in it, installed dxvk, vcredits 2015, 2018 and dotnet40, dotnet48 on the top (using winetricks). You should be fine using YellowApple build -- it works well!
I guess it is more early access thing than proton itself? 1.04e fixes it a bit

Works perfectly out of the box -- over 30 hours without any crash or stutter (although friends of mine running it on windows had some issues with game itself, so experience may vary I guess).
Crashes from time to time but outside of that works perfectly.

early access stuff mostly, native performance :)
sometimes game stutters and lags out of the sudden (especially when one is aiming at alien who is one screen away)
game is still in EA and it shows.
