It is exactly the same as playing on windows 10, actually better, though that may be subjective.
i seem to recall it worked on proton 5, but now proton 4 works (4.11-13)
Platinum - except for minor launcher issue, whiteout
When the launcher window comes up it will turn white. Just wait for it to complete file scan and the play button will become clickable. Bottom right corner. Smooth sailing afterwards. Proton-experimental.
Need to click where the play button is on the white loading screen, don't Alt-Tab or game will freeze
background audio for cutscenes was distorted, glitchy sound, voices good
less with this version, went good time without crashed, left via menu
Default Proton with STeam works ok, but the GE is better. Experimental may be fine but 7.0-1 seemed good. Other Protons don't work or not well, but 4.2-9 enables loader screen viewing. Also you can alt-tab with 4.2-9. But it was more buggy, crashing. Doesn't crash much on GE. Better than experimental or 7.0-1
For the "insufficient space" bug, use this: PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command%
. but you may not need it with GE, though i don't know as i've already installed using the starting command. Since then I've left the field blank and it works.
It's smooth and fast and nice, except for the white loader problem and the alt-tab problem and maybe crashing.
All good
during character creation cutscene game dropped to login menu, went smoothly after
As if native app. I switched from 'experimental' to 'default' (7.0-1) and it seemed to go smoother. The launcher was fine. Check all boxes except 'forced verify'. (Was slow to download and install before, but launcher worked great with 7.0-1. Not sure if that is because the installer was done before i tried the 7.)
Basically just click go, it even worked on proton 6.xx, just use windowed mode if you crash a lot, or at all. Never crashed after changed.
Game crash whole computer in FS or FS-windowed, after random time. Changed to "Windowed" and solid as a rock.
Solid since using "windowed' mode. My taskbar is on the left so it doesn't bother me even a little, wide screen. I like it always visible. NO joy in FS or FS-W modes.
Super fine running. I didn't bother playing with anyone else as I'm just getting my crazy build going. Shadow-Minions (evasion+energy shield focus only, plus minions, 2x golem, skill dur ^; going lightning now though)
I think it works the same with 'no tinkering', except in game you just select 'windowed', then hit maximize. My toolbar/taskbar is still visible. Ah, my system id from steam says "Mesa", but it is latest (525 i think) nvidia driver for 3050 laptop gpu. Also, I've got 1266 hrs. My profile is all set to public.
can't get past 2nd screen
Black screen, hit enter, then it says 7gb free space in red letters (actually 1700gb though), then it starts doing some repeating error that instantly vanishes over and over, have to hit stop in steam to close it. Same for other versions of proton.
the game is multiplayer
I tried all the available Protons with default steam no GE or other versions of Proton besides what comes with the standard Steam install. 4.2-9 worked just fine. None other.
Was able to change resolution to full screen native and alt-tab out and play a youtube video and alt tab back. Game runs fine.
Might work with ProtonGE. I've gotten it to work with that before, with different linux. Idk how ppl are able to run with any other version of Proton, like experimental or 7.x, but likely a hardware and/or software-OS thing.
I have tried many linuxes and settled on EndeavorOS for it's solid support and Wayland default in KDE (or ... ugh, gnome). This is a fresh install, so maybe more tweaking will improve ability to run higher levels of proton, but idk.
It's really up to the developers to make their game more compatible. Perhaps checking on the LOTRO forum will provide some good info.
