Once I found a working Proton version and got past initial graphical weirdness, the game was perfectly playable.
Had to tweak video settings at the beginning, and that was hard to do until I got to a good resolution.
Windowed mode didn't seem to work correctly, and I couldn't switch the fullscreen to my monitor instead of the laptop display.
I turned off the Steam Overlay while in-game.
This report is for the pre-alpha demo version of the game. I did have to tinker with the Proton version and graphical settings. It was very minor tinkering, though.
Played almost all the way through the initial tutorial.
In Steam I had to force the Proton Version 6.3-5. (It seems I was "experimental" by default.)
I did not play the game for much more than 15 min., but that is only because my hardware is on the extreme low end of the recommended hardware. So when I got 2-3 frames per second, I wasn't too terribly surprised. Nevertheless, the game installed and ran with Proton with no apparent problem other than what was directly attributable to my hardware.
Proton Experimental did not work but forcing the use of Proton 6.3-8 did.
There were a few occasional glitches when rendering that were accompanied by choppy audio. They were much more rare when I played on low graphics settings, so I attribute that to my older hardware. Otherwise, the game installed and played flawlessly. Steam informs me I've played 33 hours. That's what it took to reach "end game" -- with much more left to do if I wanted. If you enjoy puzzle games, this one is fantastic.
I had absolutely no problems installing and running eSail. There aren't a lot of sailing simulators for Linux. This one has an extraordinarily helpful tutorial, and it was a great relief to see it work so well out of the box.
I haven't submitted a separate report, but this game ran just as well on a less powerful laptop, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U with Radeon Vega, 3.5 GB RAM, Ubuntu 20.04.
