This bug affects Windows too, but you need to set your monitor to 60hz, any higher and the game is unplayably slow.
Ran fantastic on high settings (90+ FPS) with d9vk. I want to give this a gold, but there is one big issue: the game often crashes when I try to start it, it often takes several times before the game opens. But once it does, it works perfect, including controller support.
Was able to use the script here (https://steamcommunity.com/app/244160/discussions/0/2727382174641131600) DOES NOT WORK WITH PROTON 4.11, but aside from that the game runs well once you can get it running.
Opens a black window where music eventually plays. None of the standard Proton tweaks have worked.
Completed the game without incident. There were occasional lighting glitches in some cut scenes, usually having to do with water reflections. And the Sega arcade games do not have sound. Used Feral's gamemode app which helped maintain a silky frame rate.
IF YOU GET A BLACK SCREEN USING D9VK: You'll need to use winecfg to set the prefix to virtual desktop
After that I had no issues playing up to the first El Gigante fight with a controller. The PC port itself has minor bugs though (ex. audio in cutscenes may be out of sync sometimes at 60 FPS)
