Works perfectly, though it doesn't like to be alt+tabbed out of when in fullscreen.
As others have stated: intro video won't work without using various winetricks, and DSFix is only usable if you do: "WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/211420/pfx/ winecfg" and add "dinput8" as an override (remember to disable the in-game antialiasing as well). Resolution adjustments can cause big white screens though they'll eventually go away. Performance is subpar compared to Windows. Asset loading causes major stutters and FPS can dip quite a bit even after everything is loaded. Overall still quite playable, but not ideal due to the difficulty of the game itself.
Tried it on 4.2-1 as well with the same results.
Not using GE-Proton7-55 will lead to pre-rendered cutscenes having showstopper issues (e.g. non-progressable black screens, "TV color test" screens, etc). This is the most up-to-date Proton/GE that fully works in my tests.
- Players MUST fully rebind the controller in-game after initial launch.
- Game doesn't support gamepad prompts, so a mod ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=886358288 ) is needed. After extraction it can be applied with:
protontricks --no-bwrap --cwd-app -c "wine cmd /c Patch.bat" 322520

Process technically launches, but crashes after a bit. Tried Proton 3.16-8 and 3.7-8. No tweaks worked.
Performance/etc. equal to when played on Windows (including slowdowns during meteor impacts). Wired XBONE controller works, but not in menus (again, same as Windows).
Same problems that EDF 4.1 has. Primarily: you cannot make a save file unless you generate and transfer one over from a Windows boot. Game will work after that, but performance is unplayable without "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" (which is better, but not ideal.. and may still be unplayable in huge missions).
Goes through "Performing first time setup", but won't ever actually launch. No tweaks work.
Flawless, no tweaks needed. Worked with Xbox One controller as well.
This report is specifically for the 2019-04-10 OPT-IN BETA!
Works nearly perfectly, but in-game Vsync will have to be turned off otherwise unloaded terrain chunks won't load when needed. Changing settings should only be done in the main menu, else performance will tank to single digit FPS until the game is reloaded.
(This report is for the "Beta (May 1 2019)" version) Flawless! Previous terrain rendering bug was fixed, so no tweaks or workarounds needed.
Works great but needs "unset LC_ALL && %command%" (without quotes) in the lauch options to properly save games/configs. No other tweaks used.
Works fine, but has significant (>2000ms) delay on controller (wired XBONE) input. Rating "Silver" since a controller is specifically recommended for the game by the devs. Using a keyboard doesn't have the same delay. Tried all tweaks and alternate Proton versions and they all have the same issue.

8bitdo controllers: no amount of tinkering found a proper way to fix detection, making the game unplayable when using one.

- By default the game uses LT/RT for camera controls. It's recommended to use Steam Input's controller rebinding feature to set the right thumbstick to the keyboard's bindings (T/H/G/F for Up/Right/Down/Left, respectively)
- Game doesn't support gamepad prompts, so a mod ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=676138718 ) is needed. After extraction it can be applied with:

The only (slight) issue is the previously mentioned small lines above some of the menu text. It's all still perfectly legible and doesn't detract from the game. Performance is actually far better than on Windows for me.
It's a Flash game so there are major performance issues and input delays due to the lack of hardware acceleration on *nix. It's playable, but not in later stages of the game when fast reactions are required.

The intro pre-rendered cutscene is noticeably de-synced. No fix was found, the rest of the game doesn't seem impacted.

- 8bitdo controller: RT was undetected. My solution was to completely unbind its useage, and use Steam Input's custom bindings to change RT to be the keyboard's equivalent keybind: "." (period).

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d11.dll=n,b" %command%
Not using GE-Proton8-32 will lead to pre-rendered cutscenes having showstopper issues (e.g. non-progressable black screens, "TV color test" screens, etc). More recent versions technically work in this regard, but have even more noticeable performance degredations.
8bitdo controller: DISABLING Steam Input was required. Works fine after, though no rumble support because of that.
30-40% FPS drops in my case. GE-Proton8-32 + the "Atelier Sync Fix" ( https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix ) combination worked very well in my tests and brought performance to the expected levels.
Game requires Win7 compatibility but the pop-up indicating as such won't actually work and must be changed through Protontricks:
protontricks --no-bwrap 595740 win7
Works the same as on Windows after using "WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/215280/pfx winetricks d3dx9_43 d3dx11_43 d3dcompiler_43"
Will initially go through the "first time install" dependencies, but won't actually launch afterwards. None of the tweaks work.
Runs but with unplayable (ie single-digit) FPS unless using "unset LC_ALL && PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" in the launch options.. performance was still 1/2 of what it is on Windows (running 25-30 fps on high settings, on Windows it's a stable 60 maxed out) but it's at least playable now. The "unset LC_ALL &&" part is required to make settings changes stick. Tried all kinds of other tweaks mentioned here (disabling various cores, older versions of Proton, etc) and nothing else worked.
Both DX10 and DX11 modes work out of the box, but there is a fairly significant hit to performance (20-50% drop in FPS and a generally choppier experience) compared to Windows.

Menu background videos and tutorial video popups won't work on GE-Proton versions after GE-Proton9-5 due to VP9 codec issues. Official Proton 9 (Beta), Experimental, and older GE-Protons (8-32, 9-2, 9-5 tested) work properly.
