Make sure you install protontricks and then do as suggested from the terminal window: "protontricks 718850 d3dcompiler_47"
Runs on Kubuntu 21.10, Uplay loaded from install.
Uplay loaded first, muddled through that install, then closed out. Reloaded and the game started right up. Runs well, played for about an hour with no issues at 4K.
This works for me in Kubuntu -- Uplay is weird
Issue with NVIDIA driver not wanting to use Adaptive Antialiasing and crashing the game and the OS when running 4K Ultra + Adaptive Antialiasing enabled -- pretty certain it is the driver as this works fine either at 4K with regular Antialiasing, and runs perfectly at 1440p + Adaptive Antialiasing.
Installed with Proton Experimental: After the download from Steam, I launched the application. It immediately loaded Uplay and Uplay did not show the game at all. I closed Uplay and then relaunched the application. Uplay then asked for a serial number. I closed Uplay again, and then closed Steam entirely. I reopened Steam and relaunched the application. This time, Uplay recognized my purchase (Gold edition), and then after an OK press to accept terms, launched the game just fine. It runs extremely well.
Both the Steam overlay and the Uplay overlay work fine and I am able to remove the Driver message from the corner of the screen with Shift +F2 and a click on the X. Minor inconvenience, ran multiple benchmarks at various resolutions and apart from the 4K + Adaptive issue, it's fantastic. Couldn't be happier.
Works in Kubuntu 21.10 -- Uplay being weird again
Crashes if you have Steam Overlay enabled -- make sure to disable it!
**This is the same process I went through with AC:Odyssey. Origins is quite a bit more persnickety than Odyssey, especially concerning the Steam Overlay. Make sure you disable it first -- it caused multiple crashes during the opening splash screens.

Again, make certain you disable the Steam Overlay.
If you don't remove the Steam Overlay first, the game may crash your system, forcing a reboot.
Once it is removed, you will be able to remove the Out of Date Driver message Uplay places in the corner of the screen with Shift +F2 and a click on the X.
Just coddle this program along, it may crash while you're doing setup but once you get it setup, it seems to run just fine.
Ran multiple benchmarks at 1080p, 1440p, 4K. Very pleased to see this game working - runs very well at 4K with medium AA enabled on this system.
It runs
Font aliasing is an issue.
It's not as refined an experience as it is in MacOS or Windows due to the fonts.
Steam version not working
Using 6.3-8, encountering missing files errors. Did the suggested tweaks below but was unable to boot. Errors:
"Failed Loading XML file xml\GameInfo/CIV4PlayerOptionInfos.xml" "LoadXML call failed for GameInfo/CIV4PlayerOptionInfos.xml" "Failed Loading XML file xml\GameInfo/CIV4GraphicOptionInfos.xml" "LoadXML call failed for GameInfo/CIV4GraphicOptionInfos.xml"
Attempted installing the Civ 4 Complete from CD via Lutris' installer and had zero issues running the game.
This software won't compile unless you're running in 5.13-6. Once you create the Application within the program and then launch the Frame window, you'll see a black screen where the frame should be. You need to go over the Tree menu, select the Application at the top of the tree, and then in the Properties window, select the third tab with the sideways triangle, then find Display Mode and set it to Direct3D 8 or to Standard.
Once you do this, the Frame window will correctly display the contents.
Many thanks to "Tee" and "Xperine" over on the Steam forum for helping out here.
Works beautifully in Kubuntu 21.10
Was getting more than 60fps at 4k with everything turned on. Was able to load up an old save from Windows and pick right up where I left off. Looks fantastic, runs great!
Works in Kubuntu 21.10
Installed with Proton 6.3-8, ran out of the box like it should. Resolution changes work great, game seems very responsive. No issues loading up save games from the cloud.
Works in Kubuntu 21.10
Uplay launcher installation was a little persnickity on this application, but once I got it installed, everything went smoothly. Runs, works.
Kubuntu 21.10 -- unable to get the game to launch past the Uplay menu.
I have tried some of the workarounds listed below, but upon launch, the application shows the sabertooth cat skull splash screen and then crashes after 10 seconds.
Kubuntu 21.10 Crashes from Uplay launcher
Unable to get Far Cry 4 or Primal to launch past the Uplay launcher. It just thinks for a minute and then crashes. Tried some of the protontricks workarounds but no luck so far.
Installed with Proton 6.3-8 - runs absolutely fine.
Files are saved within the Steam folder, so you have to path it out to get to them in your file browser. Works fine, just inconvenient.

Installed with 6.3-8 and it runs out of the box.
Works in Kubuntu 21.10
Had some issues on my other system with PopOS but it runs beautifully in Kubuntu. Indistinguishable from Windows.
This works fine in Kubuntu 21.10 and Proton 6.3-8.
Loaded and launched fine. Tested drawing - worked fine. Tested saving files - worked fine. Tested various animation buttons - worked fine.
Runs in Native on Kubuntu - had zero issues installing and running the game.
Works in Kubuntu 21.10
All the video cutscenes are artifacted but can be easily skipped with the ESC key. Everything else looks great.
Seems to be a slight stutter when new ships load from off-screen.
Just as suggested below, to get the game to run:
"Rename/delete Starships64.exe and rename Starships.exe to Starships64.exe
If you don’t, the game will crash during the video introduction."
Works great!

Runs on Kubuntu 21.10
I have tried this with PopOS and Manjaro with no luck. I have tried it natively with no luck. However, under this version of Kubuntu and using Proton Experimental to install, it runs like a dream. Didn't have to do anything but hit the launch button after install. Graphics look great, no issues with resolution changes, zero issues at all.
Articy does not run
Tried some workarounds suggested in the Steam forums. Was unable to get it running in Kubuntu. CTD on launch due to errors in library calls to DLLs that aren't in Wine.
