Changed right trackpad functionality
Plays perfectly out of the box - I recommend changing right trackpad to mouse and left click as it is very useful but not necessary.

In Dawntrail, the Deck continues to hang on despite the graphical overhaul. XIVLauncher is recommended for ease of use...
Used FFXIVLauncher, the instructions to install it can be found at https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html
Left Trackpad was changed to be a scrollwheel. Top-Right and Bottom-Right back buttons were relegated to modifiers. Right Trackpad was changed to a touch menu accommodating a party of 8 (F1-F8), with the modifiers targetting Alliance 1 and Alliance 2 respectively.
I do not know if this is the fault of XIVLauncher or the game itself but sometimes it will launch in "1280x720" even though the screen is cut off at the edges. Changing screen size in the graphics settings back to "1280x800" fixes this. It only happens occasionally.
On Wifi, larger-scale battles the likes of Frontlines will be extremely laggy and floaty but still playable to some extent.
- Framerates on Deck after the graphics overhaul seem to be mostly fine. Continues to sit at 60 for most expansions in 4-man content with a few framedrops here and there thanks to the new lighting.
- Framedrops from larger groups of people are more noticeable, although in my testing I have yet to see frames drop below 30 (admittedly, I am using certain mitigations such as the new "Hide players around quest NPCs" feature to claw back my frames).
- Content remains clearable on Deck with no real pressing issues to report, would still highly recommend playing around with changing the controller layout to suit you.
- The inclusion of proper FSR allows us to use slightly higher graphical settings without much issue, particularly the anti-aliasing, although it will still have an impact in busy instances. Also would recommend setting the Render Resolution to 99 if the game turns into Vaseline Vision.
- In conclusion, the Deck gets to live for another expansion, expect slightly lower frames in older content than you'd be used to and be sure to play around with the new system settings.
- Also, the "Hide PCs near Quest NPCs" can be found in Character Configuration > Controls > General and by scrolling all the way down. This can net you a small breather in terms of both sanity and framerate.

Numerous changes
Since the launch of 7.0 a bug which used to stop the "Opening Movie" and the "A Realm Reborn Movie and Title" from playing all the way through seems to have been fixed on the Steam Deck. In particular the Opening Movie would be played by default upon a fresh install of the game and used to lock up and crash preventing Linux users from playing without a workaround. This potentially may no longer be an issue for fresh installs now that the movies can be played.
Unsure if this has been fixed on Linux in general or just the Steam Deck under Proton Experimental.

Runs Exceptionally Well
Though i use the full windows version of the game and not the steam version of the game, it runs well via proton with little to no issues on my SD. A wonderful MMO if your looking into one. Furthermore a patch was put out that broke compatability with linux, despite the company not being too favorable of linux they had fixed the issue within a day or two and i was back to weilding an axe with my friends just as well as i was on my desktop or laptop.

Installed and used XIVLauncher from Discover. Not required but it greatly improves the experience and allows useful mods.
Slight slowness in large city areas. Overall though it runs pretty well.
https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck for mods such as noclippy to greatly improve the xiv experience.

MMORPGs are obviously made for running with some mid-tier internets, connection runs well.

Problema que eu sempre vejo é o jogo iniciar com os analogicos em modo teclado quando no layout oficial deveriam funcionar como gamepad. Abrir o menu esquerdo e fechar estranhamwnte resolve o problema.

Played using the games Keyboard & Mouse UI option. Left trackpad was scroll and right was mouse with left click. Backbuttons was Tab, Shift+F1 and other usefull binds to make it feel more familiar to K&M. The controller part of the Deck was default Xbox button and sticks. Together it all felt natural to play.
Locked to 30 FPS when wanting a few more hours of gameplay.
The Launcher has another controller preset made specificaly for itself. When you login and enter the game you may have to enter the Steam Menu or QAM for Steam to realize that it should switch over to the games own controller preset. Minor issue but still annoying. Non-Issue if played docked.
The internet connection is identical to running the game on Windows 10.
Playing it docked also works great. Played in 1440p with Dynamic Resolution while docked. 1080p yields much better performance but I liked the crisp UI and HUD so I just dealt with the slowdown that came with the buggy Dynamic Resolution option. Expect around 30-50 FPS in 1440p DR Docked.
In regards to playability, performance and responsiveness, the game holds up well on the Steam Deck without using third-party tools.
echo "%command%" | sed 's/-issteam\(freetrial\|\)//' | sh
Very rare cases of audio crackling for several seconds.
Using "echo "%command%" | sed 's/-issteam(freetrial|)//' | sh" without quotations will enable you to run the launcher client in non-steam mode, effectively removes the -issteam arguement for the built–in launch parameters.
I should also advise that turning off Wi-fi Power Management in the developer settings of the Steam can greatly improve latency issues for some users, which can be noticeable for some when using hotbar skills and abilities.
TDP 9 GPU 1200
Set VRAM to 4gb, installed cryoutilities To improve aliasing and run at 40fps anywhere except cities:
- In Steam game preference set game resolution to 1920x1200 internal and external
- in game set resolution to 1920x1200
- check enable dynamic resolution
- set to 60fps
- set graphics settings to High(Desktop)
- set ambient occlusion to off
- in Steam deck menu set screen refresh to 40 and frame limit to 40
- set TDP to 9 and GPU to 1200
Will now have a much cleaner image with a mostly locked 40fps outside of cities and locked in light parties excluding rare effects during some bosses(like fog/smoke in one dungeon boss fight). Set HUD size to Full HD then resize everything to your preference.
Sometimes the controller is not detected and you will need to bring up the steam menu and then close out of the steam menu in order for the controller to be detected
There can be some performance degradation over a longer session that will usually clear up after 20 seconds or so
I have noticed that the most recent update to proton 8.0 does not show the keyboard needed to login

Constant crashes and freezes while verifying launcher integrity, reuired system reboots. Once launcher started, more crashes, then crashes while downloading content. with error "Unable to download patch files". These launcher crashes can make input unresponsive and crash steamos

Followed directions here to use native Linux launcher: https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html
Installed the FFXIV Free Trial in Steam.
Installed XIVLauncher from the Discover Store.
Added the following as launch options in Steam: XL_SECRET_PROVIDER=FILE %command% run --parent-expose-pids --parent-share-pids --parent-pid=1 --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=xivlauncher dev.goats.xivlauncher
Run XIVLauncher in Steam. When prompted, press the Steam button, select FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Free Trial. It just works.
Works beyond expectations. Initial launcher issues can be completely subverted with the use of XIVLauncher. Disable Dalamud for no mods.
Cross Hotbar will need re-binding for PC users coming to Deck for the first time.
Default Launcher struggles to download the game at times, and may need rebooting. Personally recommend using XIVLauncher instead.
Changing the window size and font is recommended as this was initially made with PlayStation and PC in mind.
Beyond expectations. Pair with a Portable Hotspot with good reception and you'll be able to play FF XIV anywhere you like.
It is here. Finally, with the use of portable hotspots and the High (Laptop) preset, you can take FF XIV with you anywhere with a good reception for at least 2h30ms of battery life without using AMD FSR. Cross Hotbar and controller-based targeting can be jarring at first but works really well!
Mods also work via XIVLauncher and Dalamud - Highly recommended due to it's ease of login function and XIVCombo to turn GCD combos from 3 hotbar spaces into 1. Plays a lot more like a Action-RPG after this change.
Full remapping of buttons.
You will have to tweak the controls to fit your preference which might take a little bit. But once you are done with that it is an excellent experience.
Follow this guide https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html for Square Enix copies like mine
I even tried PVP and it worked very well
Will update review as needed but 6 hours of testing everything and no issues. After XIVlauncher setup it just works
40hz/40fps
Runs perfect out of the box with Proton-GE

XL_SECRET_PROVIDER=FILE %command% run --parent-expose-pids --parent-share-pids --parent-pid=1 --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=xivlauncher dev.goats.xivlauncher
Some frame drops during Frontlines, nothing major.
I used this guide to add it as a non-steam game and also use the XIVLauncher. https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html
I was encountering the issue described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/wamfs1/having_a_frustrating_time_getting_ffxiv/
"Could Not Obtain Process Handle" when trying to launch via XIVLauncher, if I choose the normal launcher option from the Launcher It worked fine. I had to follow the instructions in the post to make it work. And then I had to launch it once and it didn't work, then I closed it and reopened it and it worked fine.
set display to 45 Hz
a few minor display errors for a couple of icons. logging into your account is a little tricky
As long as they get used to the launcher's slowness absolutely everything else works as expected.
Added functionallity to the L4, L5, R4 and R5 buttons to pop up different chat types (linkshell, FC, party) and pop up the keyboard.
The slides in the launcher do not render properly and the launcher experience is slow, if you are patient and only click the buttons once you can log in without issues.
You can increase the size of most of the UI but there are exceptions such as the item description window
This game is only multiplayer so obviously the online experience is important. It ran excellently connected through 5g WiFi
Besides the font size in particular UI windows the experience overall is great.
Aside from having to use XIVLauncher to bypass the official launcher, everything else went smoothly.
Used XIVLauncher to download and install the game.

XL_SECRET_PROVIDER=FILE %command% run --parent-expose-pids --parent-share-pids --parent-pid=1 --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=xivlauncher dev.goats.xivlauncher
10 watt
I tried following the guide but it wouldn't start in normal mode. After starting the launcher and game in desktop mode, it started the client to start the full game download (after login).
Works like normal
XL_SECRET_PROVIDER=FILE %command% run --parent-expose-pids --parent-share-pids --parent-pid=1 --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=xivlauncher dev.goats.xivlauncher
45Hz
Follow this guide: https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck

** See XIVLauncher FAQ for details: https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck **
Just follow the XIVLauncher FAQ and the game runs perfectly with fine performance. I got around 30-60 FPS when using default graphics settings, depending on the surroundings.
XL_NO_SPACE_REQUIREMENTS=true XL_WINEONLINUX=true DSSENH=n %command%
Follow guide here: https://gist.github.com/Centzilius/57892e5d1aaea51b3f389e6f1d587c97
Launcher can sometimes crash on entering secondary password, but can be worked around.
Mouse input doesn't work well, difficult to click.
Runs like on PC.
No issues playing online
XIVLauncher was dead simple to set up and FFXIV works perfectly when launched through it.

NOSTEAM=1 %command%
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/312060/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/FFXIV-Boot.cfg
Change these two lines: Browser 1 and BrowserType 1
You need to edit the config (see steps above) for the launcher to work
Doesn't launch out of the box (launcher hangs on blank screen). Make sure to launch it once and then force close before doing the other steps so it creates the necessary files though. This is for Square Enix accounts, installed using the trial version through Steam. If it asks for a product key also change the config line StartupCompleted to 1 to skip that.

This is why ProtonDB's ratings can be misleading. The game shouldn't be listed as "Gold" when you need to tinker that much to make it work (which I didn't manage to do on my Steam Deck, likely an issue/mistake on my end). If you play the game a lot, the setup time is likely worth it, otherwise play something else.
Possibly complex manual setup is required, but once you get past that hurdle, it works great on the Deck!

I've used this guide as a base https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380758972
I've also used protontricks to force install vc2019 and dotnet48, because it didn't work for some reason.
I'm also using GE-Proton7-10 instead of the Proton-6.21-GE-2 in the guide because the controller did not work at all, unless I switched to the newer version.
No issues whatsoever, was able to play the Leveling Roulette.
I've used the Steam version of the game.
XIVLauncher added an XL_NO_SPACE_REQUIREMENTS option on April Fools that fixed the free space problem I was having where I couldn't update the game because Wine was reporting a wrong amount of disk space, despite freeing up a significant amount of it.
The Launcher may close/crash when installing the game for the first time, but progress won't be lost.

After the intitial setup of this game, you should have any issues justing the game to suit your needs
NOSTEAM %command%
For those who have a non-stream version of FFXIV. First download the trial version of FFXIV of Steam in game-mode. Run it once and close the game. Open in desktop mode. Using Discovery (bottom left shopping bag icon) search for ProtonUp-QT. Install and open it up. Click on add version and install the latest GE-Proton which in my case was 7.10. Navigate to folder /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/312060/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn and open up FFXIV-Boot.cfg in a text editor. Note 312060 is the FFXIV Demo trial which I am using to play FFXIV on as I have the Square Enix version. Change the values for Browser and BrowserType to 1 and save. Go back to Game Mode. go to properties of the FFXIV game and change the launch option to be NOSTEAM %command% and save. Now open up the game and you should be able to see the launcher for you to type in your user name and password and play the game.
Run like it runs on the Windows Edition
