In regards to playability, performance and responsiveness, the game holds up well on the Steam Deck without using third-party tools.
echo "%command%" | sed 's/-issteam\(freetrial\|\)//' | sh
Very rare cases of audio crackling for several seconds.
Using "echo "%command%" | sed 's/-issteam(freetrial|)//' | sh" without quotations will enable you to run the launcher client in non-steam mode, effectively removes the -issteam arguement for the built–in launch parameters.
I should also advise that turning off Wi-fi Power Management in the developer settings of the Steam can greatly improve latency issues for some users, which can be noticeable for some when using hotbar skills and abilities.
Limited refresh rate to 40Hz/45Hz for 60/90Hz display, respectively. Disabled 'Allow screen tearing'.
Disabled in-game Vertical Sync by performing the following:
- In Desktop mode, navigate to "home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1151340/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Fallout 76"
- Open Fallout76Prefs.ini
- Find the line for 'iPresentInterval=1'
- Change the value from 1 to 0 and save the file
Some UI text such as subtitles, active Quests, and subtext can be hard to read due to how the game scales the UI depending on the display resolution.
Sounds issues can occur in certain circumstances where the sound will simply stop, however this occurs on other platforms and is likely to be a fundamental issue with the game itself.
The game runs a consistent 40/45fps on low-medium settings, and can also deliver a decent 60fps.
In-game videos will not play properly on Steam's versions of Proton, and will instead show a color test screen. This issue can be worked around by using GE-Proton.
Gameplay performs well and as expected.
