Run OOTB

GOG Version

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
If the flag is not passed, the game crashes on startup
Though I've only played for about an hour, using the flag above seems to make the game run perfectly. This seems to be a problem specific to Intel iGPUs
Some videos did not play properly with regular proton, but proton GE fixed that.

the initial setup window appears, but using the touchpads and the A button you can navigate it easily
On the Steam Deck, the virtual keyboard must be opened manually to enter the search terms - it is a bit frustrating since it is the only significant way of interacting with the game, but it is functional.

Had a few issues with proton with videos not loading and a freeze in the first 5 minutes. Switched to GE and had no problems for the rest of the game.

The game is for the "True Crime", mystery, detective genre lovers. Otherwise it's hard to immerse yourself into the story.
Games crashes every time, if you try tinkering/rewinding the "video bar" in the top that can be reached by clicking on the video screen.

Worked out of the box from start to finish
Game crashed once on seeking in video. Not sure if problem with Proton or game itself.

The game always crashes if I try to rewind the video
If you try to run with Steam Proton the videos does not play, so I needed the customized proton. If you use Proton-ge the game is totally playable and you can finish without worries.
The game runs great with Proton GE, with default Proton the videos don't work, which makes the game unplayable
Seeking the videos was slow. Not sure if intended, did not affect gameplay.
Unfortunately no cloud save support, but I tested briefly on my Steam Deck, also worked there without issue. There's no controller support, but the game is very playable using the trackpad as mouse cursor and on-screen keyboard.

Occasional video freezes
With ProtonGE-Proton7-31 (latest at the time) the game crashed straight away. It works at first with normal Proton 7.0-4 and no protontricks but after a while playing videos just shows a test card and the first subtitle then stops. Worked mostly fine with Proton-6.9-GE-2. I don't know if protontricks helped in the end.
With default Proton: Apart from the first videos, I was not able to get the sound nor the image of other videos. Subtitles are working though. With Proton GE: everything seems to be working fine.
Apart from the first videos when starting the game, other ones are not playing correctly.
Apart from the 4 first videos, I was not able to get the sound nor the image of other videos. Subtitles are working though. It seems it's uplayable with this configuration. I will try with Proton GE, since some linux user had better experience with it.

protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
without the protontricks command, the videos will not display
skipping around in videos causes crashes
Worked almost out-of-the-box with the listed progon GE version; no need for protontricks.

Videos would play, but no audio
Videos would not play, making the game unplayable
Tried the listed proton tricks and sevderal proton versions, no luck
Installs and starts ok, but can't watch any videos; the audio starts but everything seems to lock up. Unplayable.
typical gamer would probably not want to put in the effort to install glorious eggroll and protontricks
used proton glorious eggroll and protontricks command
protontricks command used: protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
No video playback, as the game rely entirely on video playback it is not possible to play it.
The videos won't play, the audio starts but finishes soon.

Proton-6.9-GE-2 GloriousEggroll

Even with various combinations of Proton and `protontricks`, videos still don't play properly

Playing videos crashes the game
I tried several versions of Proton, with and without the protontricks
command, and none of them were able to get the game to function properly. The closest I got was with Proton 4.11-13 and protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
: the first few frames of each video plays and I can hear the audio, but the game freezes until the video ends.
I did manage to get the game working on Linux using a 32-bit installation of the vanilla Wine, version wine-6.6
, and winetricks ffdshow l3codecx directshow
. (These are the same settings that Lutris has for the DRM-free version in GOG.) Proton does not seem to support 32-bit prefixes, so a vanilla Wine installation was needed.

Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.21-GE-1

Proton-6.0-GE-1
It works. Videos and all.

Didn't work. Getting `protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow` was a massive pain but it didn't help.
To get it to run I had to download windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe from a different source than the one winetricks tried to and put into cache folder, and replace symlinks with files in .steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/368370/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/syswow64/ and system32.

Starts but unable to play in-game videos
Game installed and started but the in game videos were unable to be played, even after using the suggested protontricks command.

5.9-GE-6-ST GloriousEggroll
I played in Borderless Windowed mode
Crashed once in 3 hours while loading a video.
Launch the game once to create the wine prefix and then, as mentioned in the previous comments:
protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
I used the latest stable Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST. I'm not sure if it makes a difference.

Videos do not play
Some people have managed to get the videos playing but none of their steps have worked for me. Very unfortunate.

Not starting at all
I installed protontricks and followed the instructions made by others with no luck. Most people seems to be able to start the game without protontricks (only not the videos), but that newer worked for me. So I guess I have some special problem. Steam thinks that the game is running, and some wine processes does run but the game window is not showing up. And I had to hard kill the game with "killall -9 wineserver" (SIGINT didn't work). Maybe it's because I have such a bad and old machine. Anyhow, the game runs flawlessly after I installed steam under wine 5.7, with a 32-bit wineprefix and after I ran "winetricks ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow". If anyone tries this, start steam with the -no-cef-sandbox option, it won't start otherwise.

Video Playback doesn't work
This is a game where you browse a database of videos. Unfortunately, video playback didn't work for me.

I only use windowing instead of fullscreen, because I can't find quit button (lol)
As others said, I need to use protontricks to make it work, protontricks depends on your system's winetricks. In my case (Ubuntu 18.04), I need to update winetricks using the latest version, otherwise "directshow" won't be recognized.
My steps were:

I was able to make the game run using protontricks
. Since I had an old version of winetricks
, I had to download a new one as described here.
Then I ran protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
and used default settings in the ffdshow
installation. I tried before with custom settings and it didn't play audio.
When I selected "Steam Linux Runtime" as the compatibility tool in the game's properties, Steam just downloaded an empty (0 bytes) game. I had to select Proton to make it actually download the game.

Game crashed with an error dialog saying they wrote a crash report.
The crash report is not human parseable, and also appears after the protontricks workaround posted here.
I had to run this command to be able to view the videos: protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
The game works out of the box except for video playback. To fix this, I used the same command suggested by previous posters:
WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/368370/pfx/ winetricks ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
Any time a video is started, you're kicked out of fullscreen. Thus, you should play this game in windowed mode.

The game boots without problem but video playback is broken making the game unplayable.

Like the previous poster, I was able to get the game to run perfectly after executing protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
