The game is smooth and the controls even though it is limited obviously due o the game design, but everything is lie the console version.
The game runs very well, the controls is the same as console which the gae as a built in keybinds to it, holding some buttons will show additional option which really helps a lot for a controller people. Overall, this game is good to play anywhere as you go.

Either put up with crashes to the main menu when using sleep/resume, or get into the habit of quitting when done.
Quite fiddly launcher than you must go through each time you start. The launcher doesn't offer a lot of options, so don't see why it couldn't just accept a default to start the game.
In game FSR option is garbage. Use Steam Deck FSR if needed.
Couldn't eliminate shimmering from geometry edges
Framerate could remain stable but drop considerably at various points. In FPS mode there're are a lot of effects, though usually not a lot of actual geometry, in space stations can be quite detailed but there's nothing else much going on.
Game does not support SteamDeck sleep mode. Putting the deck to sleep, and resuming will get you an error saying you've been disconnected from server (even when playing in a solo galaxy), and throw you back to the main menu.
Janky mess of a game, but the space flight and trading is great, so long as you play it as if you were on a pc and turning it off after playing.

~/.local/kitty.app/kitty ./MinEdLauncher %command% --steam --edo --autorun --autoquit
Both trackpads open a menu, and the back grips are used for translating, UI Focus, and FA Off.
The launcher requires manually opening the keyboard, so, after logging in once, you cn use MinEdLauncher
Anti-Aliasing is on by default, and ruins legibility

Requires a Frontier account, but isn't the worst launcher to deal with
In game FSR enabled by default, even when rendering to 100% resolution. Set to normal to make text readable.
Framerate will hold quite well at 45fps, but severe dips come often.
Resuming from sleep mode will trigger error that game lost connection to server, even when playing in solo mode. Sleep mode not recomended
Inability to resume from sleep mode means you might skip this on steamdeck

Just limit to 9w
Works without any problem. Also works "wings"
Works great! That game should get Green icon.

change to cas and super sampling
config needs adjusting for personal preference and/or plugged in/battery powered other than that runs greeeat

Some text, like on navigation windows were hard to read, but just by knowing where buttons were I didn't have too many issues.
A few frame hiccups when landing in a station or settlement, or entering FTL.
I do have the Odyssey expansion and it runs perfectly fine. There's a few slow downs when transitioning between FTL, stations, settlements ect. but nothing to bad. the FPS mode works fine, most text is readable. I've had a great time.
/edo /autostart
I set up my flight sticks

tdp limit 10w with autodetected settings (high), 45 FPS limit, ~4 hrs on OLED. Can be improved further if needed.
You need to add /edo /autostart to E:D launch parameters to automatically launch Odyssey. Previously, there was /autoquit parameter which automatically closed launcher after game exit, but looks like after recent launcher "update" it was removed, so you need to close it manually each time
Disable builtin FSR, it makes ship HUD UI pretty much unreadable
Game seemingly doesn't support recovering connection after connectivity loss. So if your device will go to sleep / wifi disconnects / etc you will need to fully restart game (including launcher, as launcher authenticates you against ED servers)
Only space tested (no legs, since i have no interest in playing FPS with controller). Space part works flawlessly, perfect for exploration / some light-mid combat / trading and etc. Remember that even solo mode runs of frontier servers, so stable internet connection is required. If not for annoying launcher, can be considered perfect on steam deck.

image pixelating
sometimes fps drops
I do not know what the reason but my image is pixelated. I turned off the in-game fsr and it didn't help. only the supersampling option make it better, but performance dropped and it became impossible to play. Also the official controls does not work in the game. you should change everything in the settings

/edo /autorun
Added virtual menus for having more options.
40Hz for general gameplay. You can set it to 60Hz if you want to combat for better FPS.
Launcher is a bit tricky and it sometimes loses the conection with steam, stating that you don't owe the game. Just restart the Steam Deck and it will work. This error also happens on windows so i don't relate this to proton.
Disable in-game FSR. The implementation of the FSR on this game is pretty bad. It's better to lower the resolution a bit and using steam deck's built in FSR filter.
Planetary gamplay is a bit rough, but playable. It is the same on windows.
I used Steam Tinker Launch for using EDMarketConnector. Install and first launch is required from "one time launch" option on Steam Tinker Launch menu on desktop mode.
FSR makes text difficult to read. Disable to fix.
Crashes likely when Deck is put to sleep then re-awakened.
Multiplayer dependent on server connectivity and P2P connectivity, both of which worked fine for me on various networks of varying statistics.
You can experience FPS drops on ground when running Odyssey and inside stations, but nothing major. Putting Deck to sleep when running ED can crash the game when re-awakend. Other than that, a dream to play on.
Very much an "It Just Works" experience. Space trucking is a relaxed playstyle perfect for Deck.
Awesome space exploration game, and it runs amazingly. Ruined by Frontier though, fuck Frontier.
The launcher sucks huge cock. Otherwise, not a problem to use.
Couldn't even install the multplayer portion of the game due to the shitty launcher.
Ran good.
If you already own / have played the game, it is just a nuisance to deal with the frontier launcher.
The Frontier Launcher is really sluggish under Proton. You cannot link an existing frontier account to steam, but linking a new account is fine.
4fps
able to navigate with mouse/trackpad as mouse
some text is small
The first time login was a pain on steam deck
There are some parts of the UI which are bit difficult to read
Right after the game starts the audio is quiter
audio broke, switching to proton 6.3-8 fixed it
Works perfectly, launch options remove the need to open and close launcher secondarily to the game itself
/edo /autoquit /autorun
40hz
Without launch options you just need to use the touch screen and steam chords to open and close launcher secondarily to the game itself.
As it stands, without audio, this title is unplayable. With some unknown tinkering, if you can get audio to work, the game is great.
/edo /autoquit /autorun
Used the launch options listed to move past the secondary launch window. Otherwise, interacting with it is challenging due to text size and need for mouse controlls.
Some text is relatively small. Needed to bring the screen up a bit closer to make it out.
Audio cuts out a few seconds after the first game loading screen. The issue is that the game seems to be using the wrong audio device on the steamdeck (echo-cancel sync) no matter what you've selected beforehand. I was ultimately able to get it to work after extensive tinkering. Opening the game on desktop and manually switching to the KDE setting screen clued me into the issue, and I was able to switch devices there and successfully play. Later, and prehaps because of the desktop mode tinkering, I was able to use the steam menue in game mode to change audio device after game launch which successfully restored audio.
The audio device is incorrectly chosen by the game resulting in no audio output.

/edo /autoquit /autorun
Used launch options to minimize menu impact: /edo /autorun /autoquit
Disable Anti-Aliasing in game to make text readable
Slow initial loading times
Multiplayer works perfectly fine no matter where I went in-game.
- Proton GE needed
- Launcher requires you to tap the screen
- 60FPS solid on ultra graphics
- Controller works fine with no tinkering needed
- I did not try the Odyssey DLC
Added touchpad menus for commands like Hardpoints, Landing Gear, Cargo Scoop, etc
Signing into the launcher initially is difficult, but after staying logged in the game can be launched with one button
A lot of the text in the comms panel is too small and low-contrast to read without getting closer to the screen
Entire game locked up after suspending the system briefly. Hard crash a minute later.
very playable, the only real issue is the graphical settings part. the rest is very stable out of the box
only limit to 30 fps (20+W consumption on 60 fps, 10-15 W on 30 fps) without filling anything in the game
Upscaling AMD technology were automatically selected (it doesn't work well on steam deck). I've switch back to normal, then the text was much more readable.
network is very stable, but it depend on the game servers too.
pretty good out of the box for the Steam Deck. The default layout controls is provided by the developers and works like the Xbox version.
This is a game for which sound is a highlight, losing all device sound obviously ruins it
Fully custom control layout
Launcher was difficult to use due to strange stretching
after the splash screen ALL device audio cut out, no fix online and no tinkering has solved it
It also broke my steamdecks headphone jack, requiring me to go into desktop mode and disable its audio device entirely, then re-enable it
Inside of Elite: Added vertical thrust control to the back grip buttons Bindings R Removed mode toggle from left stick click, changed it to boost. Changed mode toggle to a back grip button so I don't accidently click it easily. Changed B button from boost to heatsinks All other controls have been very good.
Default FSR setting was on quality. Change it to Ultra Quality to make text legible.
If you want perfect Steam Deck Graphic settings for performance but still crystal clear, here are mine:

3 crashes over 8 hours of play (while in wing)
a little network lag, was present on windows version also
Game works really well when you get past the launcher. Just need to log in, and launch and after that it's good to go.
Use touch screen for initial login.
Game defaults to 720p, but can easily be switched to 800p
The game-launcher interferes with the screen of the game itself (heavy flickering). You need to change the display options from "fullscreen" to "borderless" in the game's graphic settings.
The game will flicker to an unplayable degree on the default settings. Display setting must be changed to 'Borderless' in order to stop this flickering (although you will sometimes see split second glimpses of the launcher). I also played this game successfully docked in Desktop mode.
Launcher requires login which needed a restart of the game to accept a verification code. Launcher also impedes gameplay if game not set to Borderless mode.
Text is relatively small across the game, but I haven't done any tweaking to try and fix it as it's fairly playable for me still.
Played in 'open play' mode.
Flashing between launcher and play window was unbearable and random as to when it happened. Made play impossible.
Text is awfully small on the screen.
Until Frontier makes it so the launcher hides when the game starts, or Valve fixes Gamescope's fighting over launcher windows, this game's going to be impossible to play. Do not recommend.
Some personal changes to the behaviour of the joysticks
8W / 400MHz for cpu and gpu
some screen flashing
just a bit too small
screen flashing in windowed mode
great, but everytime you sleep the device the user session cannot be restored an you have to restart the game
Can optionally cap FPS to 30 as this game has wildly fluctuating frame rates between Horizon (50-60fps) and Odyssey (15-30fps) content.
UI text on floating menus in your ship and on space station kiosks will appear fuzzy unless you set Upscaling to Normal and set Anti-Alising to No or FXAA.
Odyssey content such as engagements with a lot of combat npcs and action going on will see fps dip between 17-27fps area. It by no means wasn't a slideshow and was still playable as I was still able to win every engagement.
The game can easily run on Ultra settings, but if you plan for any Odyssey content, you should run it on Medium to Low settings for better performance.
Connected with a few commanders. Did some PvE missions together and multiplayer performance as stable.
24mins of video footage showing a range of Elite Dangerous content in action. https://youtu.be/7tz_JxzVEyg
