Just like it's 2005
The best game ever still works on linux.

Game runs perfectly out of the box - much easier than wine of the OG client
Steam install has made this old favorite of mine significantlly easier to play. Installing via Wine with the gwsetup.exe was clunky and did not work consistently in my experience. With Steam this was a one-click setup (aside from downloading .dat and importing build templates) for PC and Steam Deck.

When I managed to log in the game began downloading assets needed for the area and crashed afterwards. After reinstalling I managed to log in and play the game without issues, but closing and opening the game afterwards crashed at the menu like before
some of the known command line arguments for the game provided by the official wiki prevent the game from loading via steam (-lodfull / -password)
Can login and play the game the first time it's installed, but crashes on the login menu in a few seconds any time afterwards

Loads login screen, crashes seconds later

For some reason if the game is run in a 32-bit Wine prefix, whether created manually or with Bottles or Lutris, there is no in-game music (Although sound effects still seem to work).
Steam installs the game with a 64-bit prefix, but this breaks DirectSong compatibility (Official high quality music addon) as Windows Media Player 9 and 10 will ONLY install in a 32-bit prefix.
The game will freeze at the login screen if Steam Overlay is enabled.

There are a lot of additional commands to get custom audio and eax working. proton ships 64 bit so you can't use winamp for the wma audio so I used lutris.
install lib32-libpulse with pacman
High quality audio and bonus content:
Intall wmp10 WINEPREFIX=~/Games/guild-wars/ winetricks -q wmp10
Test the audio(its buggy double click doesnt work, press play pause a few times to confirm audio plays) WINEPREFIX=~/Games/guild-wars/ wine "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"
WINEPREFIX=~/Games/guild-wars/ wine start /d "C:\DirectSong" "C:\DirectSong\RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe"
For EAX:
on newer version of windows its /AppData/Roaming/openal for the hrtf_defs and presets added dsound to the winecfg from within lutris. native, builtin on add no edit needed
Seems to work out of the box, haven't played much though. Will update if anything notable changes.
Using Proton 7.0-6
No issues, worked without any work required on my end.
Turned off Steam Overlay
The only issue I ran into was the game freezing if I tried to launch the Steam Overlay. I turned it off just so I wouldn't see the CD key prompt. Otherwise, no issues.
Works out the box
Antialiasing blurs some of the UI elements, most notably the timer on statuses.
Performance under Proton is generally better than native Windows, most notably when loading new assets there's no longer brief dips in framerate.
It seems to run well enough on the initial try. Useful if you want a micro-PC to take the game with you. Doubt it would be great without K+M
Text gets quite small, as it uses a lot of small windows you are intended to scroll through. Very much made for playing on a monitor
The game doesn't launch into native resolution, so before you even log in, you will want to click to options buttom at the bottom, tell it you want Fullscreen Borderless, and the resolution is immediately sorted.
Seems to run well enough, no obvious issues adventuring in the early parts of Ascalon, going through loading transitions or interacting with NPC, using actions, or fighting enemies. Runs happily enough, graphically it looks as you'd expect an old game to, and the audio plays fine. Some pretty obvious pop in of distant trees, but that's probably just because I left it on the default settings apart from screen resolution.
No longer sold through Steam, but for those that have it in their library, and those fewer that still play it, it works and runs great.

Had problems to run the game through steam/proton, so i just installed it via lutris and it just works without any additional tinkering or problems.

network error until i used version 5.13-6 of proton.
Can not login with Proton 6.3.1 and with Experimental

It need add PROTON_USE_WINED3D flag to get started and you need proton 5.13-6 and down to get this game work Version 6.3.1 or Exprimental of Proton you can not login it give you error msg
When you move the camera view with right mouse button it does not always doing that
While the game seemed to work fine with DXVK, after entering the "catacombs" in prophecies, I would experience a strange freeze. Switching to Wine D3D seems to work without issue, and performance is plenty fine.

5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Panning the screen lead to immediate game freeze. It seems related to loading new shaders, but I can't be sure.
Runs flawlessly

140 character limit prevents me from using this efficiently so.....
For some reason, whenever I play I can zoom in and pan the camera to the right but am unable to zoom out or pan the camera left. Making it somewhat impossible to play.
Several mouse issues.
The old gem runs flawless.

Runs without any issues

Runs just fine
