Native Support
Although this game has a Linux-native build available, Steam does not list it as having Linux support. This can happen if a game has an unofficial, unfinished, or unsupported build. You may need to force Steam to enable Proton for the game in order to run properly.

You have to use GE-Proton, rocket league is no longer supported by linux since the epic game takeover, and without GE, you'll be on a dated version of rocket league with no multiplayer.
Still works fine with Proton, but Steam will install the not working native version by default. You need to force it to use Proton.

The game actually DOES work on linux. Just run through proton.

Epic Games dropped Linux support

gamemoderun %command%
You need to force proton usage either for steam or this game specifically otherwise it will try to run it natively which is no longer supported (game will not connect to servers)

Xbox Series controller's vibration is somewhat delayed when boosting, so I turned it off.

One of the better games to install and run right out of the box. Running under 9.0 proton makes it work better than windows (at least on my system)

fullscreen did not work but windowed worked as intended
I had to use the Legendary game manager that goes through command line to get this to run properly. I use older hardware that doesn't run vulkan very well so I had to play on opengl which made it unplayable on proton and wine through heroic launcher. Haven't tried steam because I don't own it there.

gamemoderun __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 144 -f -- env LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD" %command%
many ppl say its unplayable and thats becouse rocket league has outdated native linux version(from 2022/2020 i belive) so steam prioritizes native over proton just set compability to proton and game works perfect

Had to lower refresh rate from 165hz to 60hz. Also using vsync. Game runs smooth!

Multiplayer via Steam works perfectly.

Do not forget to use the Windows build as the official Linux build is an outdated one

Playing with Proton Experimental wasnt pleasant, as i experienced many FPS drops. ProtonGE fixed that and i honestly couldnt tell the difference if you made me play on Windows and on this OS.

Just make sure to install the windows version and run it through proton. The native linux version is not supported anymore and will not allow multiplayer.
Takes a whole minute to start and some stuttering for like 10s at the start of a game

No Linux Multi-Player Support
The game installs and you can load into the main menu but you can't play online multi-player. Epic really ruined this game.

Startup is a bit slow. Otherwise, it works great

NO MULTIPLAYER ANYMORE FOR LINUX AND MACOS
epic is blocking multiplayer when you do not use windows. so fuck that company all together. fuck usa.

good but use proton without it you wont be able to play online

none
No:1 ISSUE.
ShaderCache would constantly redownload all 8.5Gb at least twice a week.
This was....reSOLVED:
By adding:
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SIZE=100000000000
to :
sudo nano /etc/environment
then I deleted my user [ .nvidia-settings-rc ]
After this I recreated my [ .nvidia-settings-rc ] by opening nvidia-settings as root.
Then in nvidia-settings applications profiles (as root) one of the variables I enabled was:
[GLSHADERDISKCACHE ] which I set to [ true ]
I updated initramfs and rebooted. Rocket League again downloaded the entire 8.5Gb cache.
After this everything has been great. Working as expected.
Sidenote: I configured my KUBU 24.10 for performance following the recommendations from X's GROK. (The following made a huge difference to online gaming.)
With Rocket League and streaming in general I have noticed the following networking parameters have made a big difference. ( may not be right for you but works for me)
Optimize Network Buffers:
Improves online gaming performance:
echo 'net.core.rmem_max=16777216' | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf &&
echo 'net.core.wmem_max=16777216' | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf &&
sudo sysctl -p
Hav Fun!

This is rocket league !
The game works just as well as under Windows with identical framerate, latency etc. As a competitive player, i can't notice any difference from Windows. It works on both steam and heroic games launcher. One downside, bakkesmod would need effort to setup (didn't try it yet).
Everything worked super well. This is the main game I play so having this work was make or break for me and it performs perfectly.

Long initial shader rendering times
After starting the game, I was prompted to register my Steam-account to Epic. However, I was not able to sign in in this moment and could not add my Steam-account afterwards (manually) when logged in. This required me to create a new account, connect it with steam, disconnect it from steam, and finally connect the Steam-account to my initial Epic account...
Warning: the game will not run with the native Linux build -- Proton is required.

Rumble is supposed to remain on while holding down the boost button. On all versions of Proton, the rumble cuts out after about two seconds.
I would really appreciate a fix for the rumble stopping after two seconds of boost. Thanks!

Taskbar appears above game until mouse used

Two config steps (launch command and run with proton) and this game works perfectly. Keep in mind I am on XORG due to Mint's Cinnamon desktop - I've played on Wayland and the launch settings were not necessary. With current config, I played 2 hours straight the other day with 0 hiccups, can easily launch, the game runs smoothly, had no issues seeing other people flip-reset on me in platinum!

Works just as native Windows/Xbox version without any visible issues

Default Rocket Leauge install script and then changed it to point to the game's exe.
Just slightly slower than on windows, but bearable (+/- 5 fps on average.)
Sometimes ping would skyrocket to 99999, but it could also be my internet connection.
Since the game is delisted on Steam, Lutris and the Epic games launcher may be the only way to play it on linux now.

With compositing on, game feels like having Vsync on but still stable and playable. If you disable compositing, the game runs smooth. I get constant 360fps without drops, feels exactly like on windows. I was expecting input lag like some others have commented, but when compositing is off, there just isn't none. I play on a high level and would notice it.

Game feels like 60fps if you don't disable compositing, however its still stable. When compositing is disabled, I get 360fps with no drops or stutters. Feels exactly like windows. I have so many hours in this game that I was expecting to notice atleast some input lag like some have stated, but there just isn't none. Great experience.

Spiel läuft in Ordnung. Ich habe das gefühl, je länger eine Spielsitzung geht, desto schlechter wird die Performance.
Nach einer gewissen Zeit fängt das Spiel in manchen Situationen an zu laggen

Team Chat was not working with Audio
I had this game on Epic and Played with Heroic Launcher. Worked Well.

gamemoderun %command%
Everything is running very smooth for me now. Just remember to compile all your shaders before playing. I'm matching my refresh rate of 180hz all the time without issue and I don't feel any noticeable input lag at a high enough skill level to care about that.
