Framerate will regularly tank, with both HUD enabled and disabled
Game will launch and race can start, however on all tracks the framerate will regularly drop to 10 to 15 fps, frametime is extremely high every other frame for approx 15 seconds, then will go back to perfectly smooth for about a minute. The dropping framerate makes racing impossible.

Sometime highlighting on hover in menus does not work
It finally works thanks to luschenkillers report. https://github.com/tristandruyen/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-4-LMU

As of this moment, Proton experimental or even ProtonGE10-10 does not work and game crashes while loading track. You have to have a custom ProtonGE from the link below. The custom Proton fixes all issues and game works with no issues. When you go to menu and return the track, menu screen sometimes does not disappear, but you can fix it by pressing ESC and clicking "Resume" again so it is only a minor concern.
Custom protonGE link: https://github.com/tristandruyen/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-4-LMU-fixbuild
Extract the folder inside into /home/username/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/ and choose the custom proton from game properties in Steam.

SteamVR mode is broken, crashes with "Unable to init VR runtime: vrserver internal error"
What works:
- menu
- quick singleplayer racing
- FFB with Moza R5 (needed to invert FFB) [same in rfactor2]
What's broken:
- VR, crashes on start with "Unable to init VR runtime: vrserver internal error"
- unplugging/replugging USB devices sometimes causes very weird issues, seems to be a general wine issue with hid devices in some titles(had it also happen in AMS2)
Didn't test:
- multiplayer & longer sessions, as I wanna keep my playtime low so I can refund in case VR issues aren't solved anytime soon
What is needed for getting it to run:
- custom GE-Proton10-4-LMU: https://github.com/tristandruyen/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-4-LMU-fixbuild
- For menu lags try changing 'CEF mode' in
SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Le Mans Ultimate/UserData/player/Settings.JSON
, 2 worked for me

Thanks to the report from luschenkiller, finally able to play!
Used proton-ge-10-4-lmu binaries from here: https://github.com/tristandruyen/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-4-LMU Just download the file and extract it to the compatibility tools folder.

Used proton-ge-10-4-lmu binaries from here: https://github.com/tristandruyen/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-4-LMU

used to work before 1.0 release.

GE-proton10.10 worked and apple going mainmenu and in game, after 1.0 its just borked.

Why do people list their Proton-GE custom but don't post the link
I wonder why people post "I used this custom Proton-GE_LMU" version" but don't post the links, because there is no way of finding these for download. Like "GE-Proton10-1LMU" or "GE-Proton-LMU_d2d1".
How about you report like grown people and actually post the link? Like this:
I tried the JacKeTUs build but it didn't work. Link for the build: https://github.com/JacKeTUs/proton-ge-custom
It's not that hard. Let's help our Linux gaming friends.
GE added de JacKeTUs fixes but still it doesn't work, game crashes at 48%. The Custom GE proton compiled from JacKeTUs fork works.

Minor graphical bug of the pause screen sometimes persisting when unpausing. Managed to fix it with a "Reset to Garage".
Depending on FFB Driver, CSL Firmware and LMU version, switch to inverted FFB if standard FFB feels weird. Have not tested online yet.

HUD glitches

Pause screen remains after unpausing

Minofr artifacts on some whipers
Performance degration since last update, might not be caused by playing on linux
Game runs using Custom-GE. Fanatec CSL DD works, including wheel leds and display using fanatec-hid.

You have to make your own custom proton, then it's playable. Some very minor Graphical clitches. Sometimes it crashes but I don't think it's related to linux, game is a buggy mess on windows too
Game doesn't start

- HUD glitches
- crashes with VSync enabled
There is a useable custom Proton build branch available, for details see:
Exited to see this getting merged into Wine upstream - then it will be probably supported without any tinkering.
Getting around >= 100 FPS in online race lobbies.

Crashes on session loading
After changing around proton versions, i where able to launch it to the main menu. I cannot load into a session, it crashes on the track loading screen.
Everything works fine until you load the circuit.

Crashing During Loading
Game menus work; able to configure steering wheel. Loading into a race causes a crash on the loading screen.

As of October 2024 the game will crash half way through loading a circuit when loading a race weekend.

Still broken
As of the September update I'm still stuck with the 48% loading bug when going into a race. Screen goes completely black with the PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1
option.

Progress has been made, but not playable yet.
With Proton Experimental, you can now get past the splashscreen now, but attempting to load into any racetrack will crash the game at around 50% loading. You can change settings, and browse all the cars and stuff in the main menus, but can't really race.
Dies after splash screen.

Splash Screen shows but thats it
There seems to be no current way of playing this game on Linux
Used various versions of Proton and Proton-GE. Only splash screen is visible then game exits.

The menu works fine but low framerate and the game crash while loading a track.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

The screen goes black and returns to the desktop.
I have tried Proton 8.0-5, 9.0 Beta, Experimental and GE-8.25 with the same result.
managed to launch via wine after pointing to prefix
I installed the windows steam runtime in the prefix and then run this: wine ../SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2399420/pfx/drive_c/Program\ Files\ (x86)/Steam/steam.exe
using wine 9.2 had to point to the right prefix: export WINEPREFIX=../SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2399420/pfx
Had to disable steam inputs
Managed to get the menus working, selected a car and track, and it started to load a track, but got to about 50% and then crashed.

Got the game running with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 and Proton 9.0 Beta. Performance is terrible and you can't get on track.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
It's another step in the direction to get it working, but it needs to work with dxvk or d3d11 or else the performance will always be terrible

Black screens for a few seconds then goes back to the desktop
On launch, the game shows Studio 397's logo then appears to be launching into something but then gives up and crashes

Games downloads and the Studi 397 Logo ist shortly shown, then the game goes to a full blackscreen and crashes after a few seconds.

Tried to change game config files and copy and rename some DLLs, installed additional dlls, but there is always the error 'ACCESS_VIOLATION_EXCEPTION' and i have no idea how to fix that. I have tried everything.
The only Error in the proton log, which is even marked as a warning and not an error, is the ACCESS VIOLATION EXCEPTION. I thought this could be due to accessing dll files which have a different uppercase/lowercase writing in the program than in the prefix so i tried to fix that. Tried a lot of different proton versions.
Been trying to fix this for 12 hours, but no luck yet.

Game in Early Access, very unstable in Windows, not working on Linux
I have tried to start it with Proton 8.0-5, Proton Experimental and GE-Proton8-27 and the game will launch, it will show the company's logo, then a black window will pop up but it won't render anything and then it will crash. Same behaviour in all three versions.
The Game is in Early Access, mixed reviews on Steam, a lot of negative reviews for it being very unstable on Windows and crashing all the time. I'm sure as it becomes more stable, it will start to work on Linux.
Le Mans Ultimate uses the rFactor 2 game engine, and rFactor 2 works on Linux, so I'm confident it will eventually work. I just hope they don't add DRM.

Game shows a brief "Studio 397" splash screen before the game opens, only yielding a black screen for a few seconds before crashing.
