Native Support
Although this game has a Linux-native build available, Steam does not list it as having Linux support. This can happen if a game has an unofficial, unfinished, or unsupported build. You may need to force Steam to enable Proton for the game in order to run properly.

Can be played with proton instantly
My controller was not detected in windows and on Linux with Proton.
Because the Proton version works perfectly, I used it instead of the native Linux version, which requires an additional Flash library to function.

With the default proton version of 9x the game experienced unplayable input lag
As others have mentioned (for years) if you use the default proton version such as 9x for me the game starts experiencing unplayable input lag on the joystick
There's a 2-3 second delay and the only way to fix this is to set the proton version to the 6.x branch in the launch options. Doing that fixes this immediately
As others have mentioned here you need to use proton 6 to get past the input lag, I tried 7x 8x and 9x and the issue still persists.
I've logge a compatibility issue on GitHub (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8573) so hopefully they fix this with an update.
Overall though this is a really nice game on the deck, do recommend
Anything other than Proton 6.3.8 results in input lag after a few minutes.

Texture smearing in one dungeon
With the latest 8.0-4 proton, I experienced about 3-4 seconds of input lag, that made the game borderline unplayable. Switching to proton 6.3-8 fixed that problem
Play with joysticks, t-pad feels awful to play with
Limited to 40fps
Ran perfectly out of the box on default settings.
Default proton failed, I used 6.3-8, and it fixes the input problem for me. Try using the Analog stick instead of the D-Pad during the beginning of the game's 2D play.
nach einem update ist die verzögerung der tasteneingabe so hoch, das es unspielbar geworden ist
proton experimental

Recurring input lag of up to a few seconds that usually goes away after a bit but comes back later again
Aside from the input lag and occasional audio stutter the performance was perfect
The default SteamDeck installation leads to heavy input lag a few minutes in. Setting it to Proton 6.3-8 fixed it
The default SteamDeck installation leads to heavy input lag a few minutes in. Fixed by installing Proton 6.3 from the Steam store (which installed Proton 6.3-8) and then applying it to Evoland via the game properties file (Compatibility tab)
Heavy (unplayable) input lag a few minutes in
Heavy (unplayable) input lag a few minutes in. Fixing that would make it amazing for SteamDeck
Input lag is significant enough to make the game unplayable.
The Steam Deck's input is not processed correctly. It's uncommon for any input to register and if it does it is delayed almost 2 seconds. It's unplayable.
The game works out of the box. No tinkering necessary. You'll get some 4.5 to 5 hours of battery life.
Evrything worked fine. No problems.
Install a 32bit version of flashplayer, change the path in config.js and the game will run in Linux.
Installing a 32bit version of flashplayer
I got this version of adobe from their website : https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=FP_32.0_for_Linux_32-bit_(.tar.gz)-_PPAPI&stype=7571&standalone=1 and copied the libpepflashplayer.so to the game's directory
The config.js file is located in the game's directory and /opt/google/chrome/libpepflashplayer.so needs to be changed to where you put the lib from the download.
I couldn't get the game to detect my controller.
The windows version using proton does work, but you'll get no sound whatsoever.
