Turn the game down to 1152 X 720, turning resolution scale to the minimum, Retro Pixels to max, capping the fps to 40-45, and even then battery life will still take a nosedive at random intervals
The game is struggling to hit even 45 fps, and even when it does, it is when the power spikes to 17W drain
Assuming it does not crash right away and the game can focus in on Steam Decks display, the game will likely (not always) put the Deck right to sleep mode as you close it, and can even softlock the Deck that all you can do is just hard reboot it
I know this report will show great with tinkering, but ultimately this port for Deck may as well be completely borked as far as I am concerned

Converted the videos to proper format: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/13sog15/how_to_fix_cinematics_for_warhammer_40000_boltgun/
With all fixes above you get a awesome complete gaming experience, out of the box you cant see videos and performance drops in big fights. I played half the game without the fixes and I still enjoyed it. Now I just enjoy it even more. Great game.

FPS drops from 60 to 20 by just revving up the chainsaw
This game runs extremely poorly, sub-30FPS. Worst part is that FPS is uneven, with frequent dips and drops. For a basically Doom level graphics this is simply ridiculous and completely unplayable.
just like any game: lower settings limit framerate I personally reccomend the medium ssettings

On standard proton game doesn't show movies - they are not important that much and propably it will be fixed by valve soon. Game runs at 800p60fps withoit any dips. I managed to run in game videos on Proton 7.0rc6-GE-1 but than fps was unstable so I switched back to standard proton.
Initial start up was rough and kept retrying and finally worked.

Gameplay is fine, however cutscenes do not function in any version of Proton or ProtonGE that I tried.
Cutscenes are unable to play.
The game runs fine, mostly stable 60 frames and the resolution has visible text. The game also has controller support - however you can only use one type of control at a time, which means its awkward to set gyro as mouse. Unfortunately, the cutscenes cannot display at all. You can notice this immediately on startup as even the game company logos cannot be seen, instead they are replaced with color bars and static. I tested on Proton 7, 8 and experimental as well as GE versions of each. This means that if you care about the narrative or 40k lore, you might want to wait for a fix or watch the cutscenes separately online.
Running the game at 60fps will give you about 2 hours of battery life.
cutscenes dont play

Nothing game breaking, but I'm old.
Love me some boomer shootin' on my Deck.
There are FPS drops on Steam Deck which are noticeable if there are a lot of projectiles and ememies on screen. Did change my settings to the values mentioned below, it helped to stay between 40 and 55 fps, even if the screen is full with enemies.
Intro seems to be bugged on Linux & Steam Deck, but you actually dont miss anything. :) I changed my setting on Steam Deck to the following:
Screen to 55 hz via Steam Deck Menu - Resolution: 1280x800 - Resolution Scale: 100 - V-sync: On - Gore Pool Size: Medium - Anisotropic Filtering: 8 - Ambient Occlusion: On - Material Quality: Medium -
Retro -> Pixelation:100 It looked better on the Steam Deck than the standard 50
I just tested it, but it seems to work just fine. (it also works with GE8.03) Pulls arround 14W with 60Hz/60fps, guess there is a lot of improvement potential, as the GPU is arround 900 mhz.
The only setting I changed is under "Retro" > Pixelation to 100 as the standard 50 looks not good at the Steamdeck, on my Desktop its totally fine with 50. All GFX Settings unchanged.
On launching the game, a popup window appears asking you if you want to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime. If you select either option (Yes/No), the game closes immediately.
