Medium at 720p and 40 fps
L4 is sprint, R4 is Lock on, L5 is D-Pad left, and R5 is D-Pad up
Cap the game to 40 fps, and enable half-rate Shading in the QAM
Playing with Controller on dock then suddenly swapping to handheld mode with the built in controller can make the game freeze
A begginer Souls-Like that feels made for the Deck.
720p on Low Settings
Cap the game to 45 fps with everything set to Low/Off
Feels like a Switch port we never got. Play it on the Deck, you won't regret it.
Turn everything to low at 720p/75% scaling at 50 fps
720p at 75% scaling with 50 fps and a TDP limit of 10
If you are on Steam Deck, just cap it to 50 fps. Sonic Gens, once you get to the raw numbers, isn't as smooth with a wild frametime graph, but you aren't very likely to notice it while playing, and Shadow Gens runs like a dream.

Turn the game down to 1152 X 720, turning resolution scale to the minimum, Retro Pixels to max, capping the fps to 40-45, and even then battery life will still take a nosedive at random intervals
The game is struggling to hit even 45 fps, and even when it does, it is when the power spikes to 17W drain
Assuming it does not crash right away and the game can focus in on Steam Decks display, the game will likely (not always) put the Deck right to sleep mode as you close it, and can even softlock the Deck that all you can do is just hard reboot it
I know this report will show great with tinkering, but ultimately this port for Deck may as well be completely borked as far as I am concerned
