Multiplayer: Persistent connection lost errors until the game finally suggested to disable crossplay after numerous attempts.
Game window focus is a bit buggy on Hyprland
Linux native version couldn't detect mouse wheel events. Worked like a charm after switching to Proton.
Works great overall but sometimes crashes after a few hours of continuous gameplay

Flawless out of the box
The first game I've had to do literally no tinkering for. Signed into protondb just to recommend this game on linux.

The failure to start makes this unplayable.
The game installed and ran without issue the first time I played. The second time, it immediately got stuck in a windowed black screen that didn't change within a few minutes. I tried many things, nothing worked:
Different startup modes (default, OpenGL, no mods) though worth noting that I'm not using mods. I tried a bunch of different Compatibility modes (none, Steam Linux Runtime 1.0, Proton 9, Proton 7, Proton Experimental).
From the ~/.config/unity3d/Pugstorm/Core Keeper/Player.log
, the most suspicious lines were:
PlatformConfiguration: platform configuration for variant Linux was not found.
PlatformConfiguration: loading platform configuration for variant PC.
I also tried running the executable directly with Wine. It created a fullscreen black window, and then crashed. There were a lot of warning logs, but no clear cause in Player.log
.
I tried uninstalling the game and deleting all of my save data to start with a clean slate, but it still wouldn't start!

Make sure to set compatibly mode to Linux and not Proton, start the game, and when prompt pick OpenGL. Gave some hours and the performance was stellar on the deck
The game runs great out of the box, just make sure to run it through GE or Proton because of the unity audio bug!
gamemoderun %command%
Standard unity missing audio issue, just like in native valheim, I ended up switching to GE and then audio selects the proper default channel.
After about 6 hours of gaming, there seems to have been a memory leak that dropped me down from 150fps to 20fps and made my entire PC sluggish and almost unresponsive.
Given the game is made in unity and plays audio over the wrong channel, it's best to play this through GE or Proton instead. The memory leak issue seems to be new, as I've only had it after the lastest hotfix and it's run perfectly fine during the other 53.6 hours in total played.
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="" gamemoderun %command%
Native version has audio issues (unity linux related), it selects the wrong audio device. Proton version is fine.
The audio issues as described here by other people, seem to stem from unity + linux native. The game runs perfectly fine through proton.
There is 1 (current) issue, there seems to be a memory leak when playing the game for long amount of time without restarting the client (it was at 16 GB after about 6 hours, while someone else had their system chug (32GB system) after about the same amount of time.
other then that (might be related to the latest update) the game runs fine. Its loads of fun, even more so with friends on a dedicated server.

prime-run game-performance %command%
Used wrong audio device on Native
Couldn't connect to multiplayer games. "Connection Lost"

Doesn't use default audio device.
I had to tinker my controls slightly to get it to work, but it did work. If my controller disconnects while the game is running, it stops being able to detect my stick, however, and I need to restart the game.
Works perfectly out-of-the-box on KDE Plasma 6.1

Native version does not work with Hyprland
The process starts but the game never shows up, or shows completely black. This happens with the OpenGL version as well.

missing textures after long times playing, probably some weird memory issues. Textures would be wrong, missing entirely, or flickering. Purely cosmetic, only happened after long sessions, fixed by a game restart.
rare crashes, seemed to be tied to multiplayer with windows clients, unloading areas people were in.

Almost perfect
The game ignores your default audio output device and arbitrarily selects one.

Did have an issue with multiplayer not working after an update, but has been fixed since then.
Did have an issue with multiplayer not working after an update, but has been fixed since then.

Runs fine on proton. The devs need to add an audio device selection in the options as native seems to select the wrong one.

gamemoderun %command%
Careful about killing the process since the game saves character and world states at different times so you might lose items if you're impatient like me.

Audio is fixed with GE

No audio on start. Fixed by: Open system sound settings, change output to something else, switch back to regular output

How It Should Be Done
No issues out of the box:
- Can join and host multiplayer games
- Play with maxed settings
- No audio issues like some have experienced
- Even Discord rich presence works
Multiplayer and audio didn't work until forced compatitbility was set to Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout)
. Custom GE caused the audio to work, but not multiplayer.
Defaults to wrong audio device. I select the correct one per-application using my operating system settings
No audio in the native version. Switch to Proton.

Stuttery sub-30 fps
If even stable 30 can be achieved this game will be a staple for deck.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
constant flickering when in inventory (fixed with launch option)

Proto-ge
No audio on the original linux version. Had to launch it with GE proton
Good experience, but if you're having issue try to switch to proton

Marche parfaitement
Marche parfaitement sous Linux Mint avec Proton 8.0-5. Je joue avec entre 1 et 5 autre personnes sous Windows et Steam Deck. Aucun soucis rencontré

Set off hand use (B) to L4, set quick torch (R3) to R4, set inv sort (keyboard R) to L5.
In the mods section of the menus.
When on Linux native, the game file would not save
Swapping to GE-Proton8-27 allowed me to install mods via the in-built mod manager, which does improve the experience quite a bit.

I think that the experience I get is a very good experience, controls can be a bit iffy but thats not due to Linux at all.
I added the B Button to L4 and added R3 to R4, B button to use my trinkets, R3 to quick swap torches, also added R (Keyboard) to L5 so I could sort my inventory as there isnt one by default.
Inside the mods menu
When running Linux native version, the game would not save.
When running the default version of Proton, mods would not download, swapping to GE-Proton8-27 allows the mods to download and be used. I downloaded GE-Proton8-27 via ProtonUp-Qt.

Overall runs smoothly, however, fans can get loud and battery drains quickly if no settings are adjusted.
Occasionally the game has slowed down to a halt, forcing me to reboot the device if I'm not able to close the game fast enough. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the issue and it hasn't happened in a few days, it may have been patched.

Игра не фризит, бывают просадки, но они не столь ощутимы, мультиплеер работает отлично
No problems

Works great out of the box
Connection to a dedicated server works great, too
No issues found, though I feel performance might be slightly worse?
Even with frequent freezes the game saves automatically frequently enough so it isn't a big deal, it's still worth playing, however.
Running on Native frametimes and fps remain locked and 60, using proton (Experimental and Official) fps dips into 45~.
Running native linux version the games freezes frequently after alt-tabbing.
TDP Limit: 4
GPU Clock: 600
Joystick presses (L3 and R3) incorrectly register as pressing the other joystick instead.
