SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 %command%
Scaling issues
Weird aspect ratio
As usual if you DARE to use wayland while gaming you will HAVE to set this "SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11" because for a protocol that is from 2005 it seems that SDL devs did not even concieve the idea that maybe one day X11 may become obsolete. So now we have to deal with this when we want to play old games.

Process a bit combersome, but was able to start and play without glichs Game scale is alright after saving options
TLDR: find a way to disable fullscreen in the users/options
1 Start uplink.bin.x86_(64), it will glitch a bit, 2 Find a way to unfocus (alt-del-supp, but do NOT KILL PROCESS) 3 game unglith (reason unknown) 4 Retake focus and go to options, 5 disable full screen & change res apply 6 Game may glitch again but after unfocus off and on it should be fine
Initial post install graphical Glitch
Fullsize make the game unplayable in native

Game launches, unable to complete tutorial.
Native build has strange issue staying on one display, as well as scaling issues, while the Windows build locks you at picking an Uplink server in the tutorial as the image doesn't render correctly.

Windowing/Resolution unacceptable, and neither settings nor saves persist
Resolution is set to 1024x768 fullscreen, and second monitor is set to mirror on launch. Can change settings in-game, but they require a restart, and settings do not persist when quitting
It's really unfortunate that a native Linux game would behave so poorly, but it is also 18 years old. I doubt we're going to get an update any time soon.

At native resolution, the whole game is pretty much unreadable on the OLED's screen without magnification. Dropping the resolution in the game's graphics settings (which becomes acessible shortly after logging in for the first time) to 960x600 or lower increases text and UI size at the expense of less screen area to play with. I'd suggest not going lower than 960x600 if you can manage it, to keep your workspace from getting too crowded.
On the Linux build, flashing button highlights do not appear (e.g. to show you where to click during the tutorial). Not an issue when using Proton.
On both Linux and Proton, there are small artifacts and glitches that appear someitmes - small white lines in places and missing text in text boxes, for example. It's not a common problem, though it is distracting when it happens.
I did not try the Uplink OS mod, which might help with readability.

A typical user can play natively without using proton, but I need proton so that I can install windows-based mods.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_D3D10=1 %command%
There's so much garbage in the graphics, it is unplayable.
I want to use UplinkOS but I can't on the Linux-native version of the game. Trying to use Proton, however only shows garbage when there's any graphics on screen. I've been trying to figure this out by using protontricks to install various libraries and doing little tweaks here and there, to no avail.
I really hope the UplinkOS guys can make a Linux version... cuz this ain't workin.

This game runs natively on linux, HOWEVER, if you intend on using UplinkOS you will have to use the proton version of the game to make it work. I used experimental.

gamescope -w 1280 -h 1024 -- %command%
Using Proton broke some rendering and made the game soft-lock, as already reported by others. Using the native Linux version, however, I experienced the game rendering partly outside my screens on my multi-monitor wayland setup and that made it unplayable as well. If you have similar issues, try using gamescope with the native version. I have no more issues since I started using it. The gamescope options can, of course, be adjusted to your liking.

Soft-locked in native
Text does not scale with larger resolution settings.
Some in-game functions not working, resulting in a soft-lock.

Had to use TKG Wine 5.21.r0.ge2d9f97b and DXVK 1.7.3-03f11ba from lutris, wasn't able to use Proton 7 or 6 series.
The dll override glu32 (native, bultin) may also be needed.

Works perfect OOTB
Only the Native version works OOTB , Proton kinda sucks. UplinkOS doesnt work!

Text is tiny and resolution can't be changed. Also, it's impossible to change the solution in either fullscreen or windowed mode.
Text is really small and the screen resolution cannot be adjusted.
Can't alt+f4 or ctrl+q out of the game.
Can't adjust resolution and window mode uses the full resolution, meaning that you can't see the bottom and right most side of the window.
With steam proton, there's some graphical glitches that break the game. Also, UplinkOS doesn't work, deepblue works. Changing the actual OS display resolution to 768p makes the game much better but it kinda sucks to have to toggle this eveytime I want to play the game.
Works OOTB with Native Linux version

UplinkOS Fails to Launch. Native runs fine.
If using the UplinkOS Mod, the game attempts to open multiple times, resulting in rapid black flashing on the screen before inevitability crashing. This was tested using Proton-Experimental

5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
GloriousEggroll Protonversion

Can't get past the introduction.
The text displays fine, the music plays and practically everything's fine, aside from the fact that the "OK" button in the game's introduction is broken. Where the button should've been, there's only the "OK" text but no button. After moving my mouse cursor around the screen, I've noticed that the button is there but is in an incorrect position and is invisible.

Game opens but all clickable options and all graphics are either invisible or severely graphically corrupted.
Please note I am running on quite outdated hardware. Runs fine natively BTW.

Game starts, audio works, no menus
Tried on all proton versions available in steam. Tried various proton options but regardless of changes made nothing different happens.
If game is started using native then it turns 4 of my 6 monitors into the game and crashes graphics until reboot when you exit.
