If you have a Meta Quest headset, instead of ALVR use WiVRn -- it doesn't even use SteamVR: https://wivrn.github.io/ -- that was the only way I could solve the "eyes apart" bug which otherwise made the game unplayable. Its setup is nice and easy and should not interfere with your other VR games.
If you try and use ALVR, the game will show the two eyes wide apart, to the point it makes the game unplayable. Instead of ALVR, use WiVRn at https://wivrn.github.io/ -- its setup is easy and simple with autodetection, it's available as flatpak and it doesn't even use SteamVR, having lots more performance due to that.
Don't worry too much about that launch parameters strings -- if you use WiVRn, it will show it to you and allow you to copy it with one click.

The VR eyes are shifted, making it impossible to play.
There's a bug report open for it: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6449 -- it seems some people get it to run with various workarounds, like setting resolution to 150% then back to 100% again. These tricks did not work for me.

Eyes were off-center, fixed by setting VR resolution to 100%
Buttons on the controller did not work on Proton Experimental. Fixed by swithcing to Proton 8.0-4.

Stopped working with Steam VR as of Halloween update
The game launches fine and goes to the menu without a VR headset attached and Steam VR running, but with Steam VR running, it crashes almost immediately at the developer splash screens.
Unplayable due to double view
Double vision
Game is unplayable due to double vision (right eye is off-center).
In contrast to what some here wrote, changing the resolution multiplyer changes absolutely nothing about the situation. Even after multiple restarts and changes, the problem persists, no matter the chosen multiplyer.
As long as they've visited this page and know what to do to fix it, it's perfectly playable
Changed Vive resolution to 100% from default
Initially unplayable due to bug with default resolution
Please, "mighty coconut", change your game's default resolution to 100% so that it works out-of-the-box on Linux.
Double vision at first. Changed resolution per eye (custom) from 106% to 100% to fix.
Resolution per eye must not be more than 100%
If you're on an Index and run above 100% resolution (I typically run at 150%), the right eye is rendered completely incorrectly.
On Windows I've had this game freeze quite a bit and require a rejoin; Have yet to experience that on Linux but so far I've only gone through one or two rounds after seeing the fix for the right eye rendering incorrectly.
Using the valve index in 120fps mode my SteamVR resolution scalling was allready set to 100%. I've not experienced the eye spacing issue that other reports have.
Game works offline as expected. Very minor graphical bugs when first loading a course or home screen.
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_0 gamemoderun %command%
Both screens flicker white for a second when loading into a new course or the home area.
Did not attempt online play, but offline play works as expected and loads steam cloud save from Windows PC.
On vive, eyes only rendered correctly when lowering resolution scale to 75%
Right eye is shifted to the side in VR
Using a Quest 2 with ALVR, right eye is shifted to the side by about 20cm, making it very nauseating and unplayable. I've tried default Proton, experimental and GE, none have fixed the issue.
Game crashes on initial loading.
If SteamVR resolution is set above 112%, the right eye is rendered wrong. 112% or lower, and the game works great.
Works out of the box using the Valve Index

The game isn't playable with Valve Index.
The left eye is centered, but the right eye offset a good distance to the right. You end up looking at to similar but offset images, which does not make for a pleasent VR experience.
The right eye view being broken makes it unplayable.
The image projected on the right eye of the VR headset was noticeably distorted. Turning the head left or right shifted the whole image in oblong ways, while the left eye view was perfect. It made for some nauseating feelings.
Everything about the game seems to run just fine except for that. I was able to join multiplayer games with friends and in-game voice chat worked fine.
I tried it on multiple proton versions. I had the same right eye bug in both 6.3-8 and Experimental, but wouldn't launch at all with 5.13-6 or 6.21-GE-2.
Works perfectly out of the box with latest Proton 6.3. Runs very smooth on my system.
Game launches at very high volume, causing audio crackling on my Index. Setting it to 30-40% gets rid of it.

When the right eye drawing is fixed, this game could work nicely on Proton.
Game starts, you can "play" it, BUT! Right eye is not drawn correctly. Left eye is OK. Unplayable. At this moment the game is not recommended. Using Valve Index.
